When we had a boat, we had to use 1~2 gallons per flush as the sewer line hoses they use are not like the rigid black plastic pipe in RVs.

Boats use flexible clear plastic, and susceptible to permeation. And they were somewhat horizontal runs, so it took a gallon or two of water to ensure the hoses were clean, otherwise the stink would migrate through the hose.

I am thinking then that while the black plastic pipe in a RV won't permeate, it probably does take more flush water when there is a somewhat horizontal run.

Of course, this means less flushes per dump out, but if you are at a full hookup, it's not much of a problem. Boondocking though might be a concern. If you have two toilets, you will probably want to restrict use to the most direct plumbed toilet during boondocking.
