Hwy 1 is closed at Big Sur because the roadway is under 40 feet of landslide. Google it for amazing aerial photos and details. The state is working hard to reopen the road. At this time, you have to take Hwy 1 to Monterey to Salinas then Hwy 101 to Hwy 46 at Paso Robles to get to the coast.
