(15A + 30A) adapter to standard 50a RV connection

I am using this without issue at home, but I monitor voltage on each leg and amperage draw on each leg via a EMS.

There are others, even some that allow for 2 30a connections.

yep, I've got several different 'adapters' for various and unique situations, especially when not at rv parks and campgrounds... you never know when you might 'need' that extra 15a or 30a of power.

Need to check with the campgrounds, we've been to several that state in the rules "NO Y CONNECTORS".

As stated on the websites selling these - they won't work if the outlets being plugged into are GFCI protected. Most campground 15/20A outlets are (should be!) GFCI protected...

The Y adapters merge the neutral/ground contacts across the 2 circuits - and appears to a GFCI to be a ground fault that it is designed to protect against. It will sense the imbalance due to usage on the other leg and trip.

I have Camco dogbone connectors. I use a 30 amp to 50amp when needed, and for the overnight prep at home before a trip I add a 15 amp to 30amp and plug in to an outside outlet at my house. I can run the lights and residential fridge and ensure my batteries are topped off before we leave.

I use that Y adapter. It does have its limitations. I use it at home and when parked at friends. I use it on a portable generator also. I have an adapter that I use to plug into electric clothes dryer receptacle.

I'm looking for thoughts here; I have the adapters to take my 50 amp down to 15, but when I plug into my 20 amp outlet I'm tripping the GFCI. I've checked the coach to make sure I'm not running anything, but still can't get it to work. TIA

tripping 'what' GFCI? in your rig? in your house?

Just for clarification. You have the adapter connected to the coach. Then you ran an extension cord from the coach to a ground faulted receptacle at a building. Your ground faulted receptacle then trips?

What happened to me was the GFCI at the campsite tripped immediately.

At home, I am able to utilize two separate circuits that are not GFCI protected. Tip - garage wall outlets may be GFCI, but my ceiling outlet for the garage door opener is not.

Shawn62, that is correct. I'm plugging into a dedicated 20amp circuit in the garage.

GFCI doesnt play well, or at all, with ‘dogbone’ ‘Y’ adapters, unfortunately

I haven’t had any problems with the GFCI tripping. I do use my Progressive Industries surge protector, plugging that directly into the house outlet; then the two dog bones and then the coach 50amp cable.

Doc,
I would bet that GFIC 20 amp receptacle is being tripped by the adapter. Try changing to a regular receptacle.
