I have a 2014.5 challenger dt37 home. If you have the full size refrigerator and you are not plugged in or have the engine running will the refrigerator run for a couple hrs on the batteries.Mine does not, and I do not want to pay someone to tell me it does not.

Your 14.5 DT should be like our 15 KT. The inverter is hardwired and will supply 110 volts to the frig, all TV's and probably one outlet passenger sidewall just below dash. as long as batteries last. When not plugged in to shore power or engine running do any of your 12v lights work? If not check battery "store/use" switch which is probably in the stairwell.

Did you turn the inverter on? The inverter does not automatically kick in and must be physically turned on for it to power the fridge. The refrigerator hould run through the inverter. Mine does and it works well. If your inverter is not working there is a separate breaker in the interior breaker box which controls the circuits tied to the inverter.

It sounds to me like Steve is asking about the amount of time that the fridge should run off batteries, not if it runs. Otherwise I would not have expected the reference about when engine is running. The inverter would still be powering the fridge, right? The difference being that engine alternator can keep batteries charged, and hence powering fridge.

I may be interpreting his question completely wrong, but it sounds like his issue is that batteries are not powering the fridge for a couple of hours, which may suggest bad batteries.

Perhaps he can clarify what is happening. I don't own one of these so can't help with specifics.

I had a tech that was going to work on my unit tell me the full size refrigerator does not run on the inverter. He said it was not large enouph. I know the battery's will not last very long by them selves.

Then how are you to keep fridge cold while driving? If your refrigerator is a residential unit that requires 110-Volt 60-Hz AC power, then it needs to run off inverter. And an 1800-watt inverter should be plenty large enough provided you don't have other loads on it at same time. If someone here with more experience can't help you, I'd get a second/different opinion.

By the way, the fridge may run longer than a couple of hours on battery power if they are good. To know what to expect you'd have to look at refrigerator specs to see how much power it consumes. That and your batteries' capacity.

I have a 2015 Challenger 37ND with the Whirlpool residential refrigerator and a Xantrex 1800 watt inverter. With the inverter turned on, the engine not running and the shore power disconnected the inverter powers the fridge and televisions. The inverter powers these items regardless of the position of the use/store switch.

Have you actually tried or are you going by what the tech is saying?
