carefree awning
We have a 2017 challenger 37yt. ever since we took delivery in march we have had problems with the awning. It opens slowly and when we try to close it it keeps stopping, and I have to keep running it open and close to get it back to the closed position. It also has a wobble on the motor . The dealer changed the motor and still the same.It looks to me like the motor is not getting enough power to pull it back in,any one else have this issue?

Mine opens ok but retracts slowly or not at all on battery alone. It is slightly better (i.e. I can get it in) if the generator is running or I'm on shore power. I think the extra voltage of being on the charger is just enough to make the difference. I want to check the voltage at the motor but haven't done so yet. In the meantime I carry the tools to do a manual retract if necessary. I spoke with Lippert and they think a motor replacement is the cure. We'll see.

My awning retracts slow also, but I haven't got to use it that often. Does yours have the auto retract ?
As you said, wife and I are starting to love our coach more and more as the issues get resolved.
One thing I'll never get over is the whining of that motor going down a hill. The ole sphincter muscle doesn't relax for days after a few down hill trips. Lol

I was told the awning issue ie due to using too small gauge of wire for such a long run, too much voltage drop.

Tex,
Does that mean overheating in the wire and chance of melting?

Going on tour again next week (Michigan UP) but I'll check my voltage at the motor when I can. Running a new wire might be a challenge but probably is doable if that's what's needed. My awning is an 18 foot Solera.

Wouldn't think so as it's a voltage drop.

Probably not much risk inasmuch as the circuit typically is not in use for very long.

Thanks, ours has always worked on our Vegas, but that is one less thing to worry about.

awning
thanks for the replys. I had the motor replaced did not change a thing. the dealer also thought it is because of under sized wire. Heis trying to get help from thor tech but they have not helped as of now. I would like to run a jumper wire to a 12 volt battery and see if it works better.

I'm also having the same problem. The plan is to go to the dealer soon to see what they say, but judging from the post I read from you and all you guys I think I know what the answer will be.
Well, if I find a solution I will let you know.

It helps to occasionally lubricant all the hinge points. My awning was getting a little slow, shot of lube worked great. Also remember the awning has to retract against the springs which also give it an assist when going out.

Awning malfunciton
Have a 2016 Thor Windsport 34F with Carefree Latitude single stage awning. Retracts fine but extending, I have to continually push switch to get it to extend. Only goes 1 or 2 feet at a time. Could this be a faulty wind sensor switch. Thx
