Has anybody in here tried one of Renogy's 12 volt 200 amp AGM batteries?
I just noticed them durinf an Amazon search, and their compact size makes them a potential replacement for my pair of 27s under the steps.

I haven't Bob but I have thought about going to them some day.

I have been very happy with Renogy products and their customer support so far so I would not be afraid to try them. They also run sales periodically.

I will say.... those puppies are pretty hefty at a 128lbs!

Can you shoot a link please? If you recall, I'm working on a solar set up and looking to go with 4-12's under my steps. I have two and there's enough room for two more OEMs, so need to fill the void

Are batteries installed end to end? Even if so, make sure you have enough width also. That’s a big battery.

If you replace two existing with one new 200 Ah, how much are you gaining? Is it worth it?

Yes: They are end to end.
The width and height are fine...
What would be gained?
For starters; you'd simplify the heck out of the wiring!
But that's why I'm asking questions about them...

Here's my dilemma.
Two of those are 2/3 the cost and almost 6 times the weigh and a multiple of size to an equivalent li-on with REAL usage available amps, unless you shop well and than its 3/4 the price.
(I don't think I care much about the weight)

I'm too torn.
Li-on life and warranty, some agm builders now building relative crap...you won't know it's crap until three years down the road...

I've certainly decided to not put my 6v wets in the rv. I was a being blind, mostly. I was trying to recapture 900 bucks which seems, upon real review, the only reason for me to do such a thing.
(the greenhouse is going 12v solar. Just. Because. I. Can. (and I want to recapture the 900 bucks)

That’s a clean installation compared to most Thors I’ve seen. It does look like you’d have plenty of room, but it’s difficult to tell from pictures. The area almost looks like it was sized for up to 4 batteries of some size.

One disadvantage of a huge 12V versus 2 smaller 12V is that if any cell goes bad, you’re out of luck. It’s not the end of the world though since many motorhomes have gotten by with a single battery for decades.

The Coachmen Cross Trek used a single 330 Amp-hour battery, so it’s not like it’s unheard of.

P.S. — Two of those would cost $800 MSRP. That would buy (about) one 100 Ah lithium.

The Renogy would have 400 Amp-hour capacity, so 200 Ah useable at 50% Depth Of Discharge (DOD).

A lithium would likely be 80 Ah or 100 Ah useable depending on manufactures’ ratings.

So lithium is much more expensive unless the higher initial cost is spread over many more cycles due to longer battery life.

With lithium I’d wonder whether I’d keep motorhome long enough to get a payback if I never killed the AGMs, and also how lithium batteries would perform in winter if mounted outside under steps where many RVs have them.

Regarding “Amps” (and not Amp-hours), those Renogy are rated at up to an insane 2,000 Amps for 5 seconds (more like a starting battery).

Common RV lithium batteries in same price range (~100 Ah) can’t come close to even one Renogy, not to mention two batteries with combined 4,000 Amp rating.

For powering large loads like inverters, these look promising if you believe their specs.

While I am VERY curious about how to "upgrade" the electrical storage system in my RV: I'm still pretty nervous about Lithium batteries.
I honestly think that I'd like to see more information about them...
But things like AGM batteries and solar power: I'm on that; like a PitBull on a mailman!

Bob, Sounds like your qouting B-52's in your signature.

Since your in NY area I would suggest either going with AGM's (I have some 6volt AGM's under my steps and love them) or install the Lithums "inside" your RV so they dont freeze at night.

I think they say you can let the Litiums Freeze but you cannot charge them when frozen? But I would not like to be one one the runed my brand new $800+ Li the first winter to find out they were wrong.

Personally unless you using your RV around 5 / 6 mo (+) a year I would go with AGM's.

But to each his own.

Last year, I installed two Battleborn lithium batteries in the tray below the step in our 2016 Axis 24.2. They fit ok, taller and wider but no real issue. Tighter area to make connections but doable.

I made the decision after visiting with a friend that put one in his motorhome. I don’t have a lot of experience with them yet. I recently installed 400 watts of solar on the roof and believe it will go a long way toward keeping them charged. Planning a road trip to see if I am right.

I had been using a 120 watt suitcase type panel that did a good job charging them.

I also purchased a lithium capable battery minder to keep them charged while the Axis is stored.

Yes, I spent a lot of money – perhaps more than necessary – but I was influenced by the expected long life of the batteries.
