You'll get a "DEF Quality Poor" light on the dash...same as you get when it's running real low. Add as much as you can to sweeten it up. Personally, adding this system to light duty pickups and recreational vehicles is the stupidest thing the EPA has ever done.

Sounds like something to watch but not fret about.
We use ours mostly in western Wyoming and Montana, a lot of mountain driving with a 14' trailer in tow with a Kawasaki Teryx on it, we average 9.5MPG . No trailer mostly flat land driving 10.5MPG.

Sweeten it up?

LMAO. Now that's funny. Not the Type 1 though. I'm Type 2. Finally was able to drop weight using Profile and get the right exercise going to get off insulin 1 year ago this month. What a difference.

My 550 DEF tank is not that big. I would have to check my Ford owners manual. You will get a warning on the dash display when it's getting low right before you loose engine power. What I do is carry a 1 gallon jug of DEF in that compartment as an emergency resource but when I travel 1500 to 2000 miles I always just add 2 gallons or so. There is no mpg it depends on how and where you drive.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid. Used in emission systems of newer diesel engines.

The DEF tank on my F550 is five gallon. I have 14k miles on it and have put a 2.5 gallon refill in the tank twice.

Thanks.
On first trip in our Omni xg32 we drove 3400 mile and didn’t fill DEF tank.

I get about a 1,000 miles per gallon of DEF. My tank holds 5.5 gallons of DEF.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but I can get much better DEF mileage with off the shelf Blue DEF versus Truck Stop DEF at the pump. Roughly 300 mpg versus 200 mpg. This could account for some of the large disparities in DEF mpg in these posts.

I use the Blue Peak off the shelf DEF and have never tried the truck stop fuel DEF. I usually check my DEF before leaving on a long trip averaging 700 mpg.

I generally fill the DEF tank when I get the oil changed. I also use 2 of the jugs when I fill it.

Paul
I use the same stuff.
But rather than pick it up at the local Walmart: I'm going try getting it at a local Auto Zone the next time...

My DEF usage appears to be about the same using Blue DEF or using the bulk DEF at the diesel pumps from Pilot. Based on the records I keep the DEF usage even appears to be more when using bottled Blue Def with about a 20 MPG decrease over the bulk DEF.

The biggest difference is the cost. At the diesel pumps at Pilot I pay 2.99 per gallon for DEF. Blue DEF in the 2.5 gallon jugs at WalMart costs right at 4.99 per gallon.

The biggest issue I have is the location of my DEF tank relative to the diesel fuel fill and the fact that truck pumps want you to pump diesel first and then DEF. I have to pump both using two separate transactions at the pump. I have to cancel fuel, pump DEF then close out the transaction, pull the coach forward about 20 feet and then pump diesel. On the Freightliner S2RV chassis the Def tank is by the driver's door and the fuel fill is right behind and above the rear wheels.

Bob

I have been ordering it online at Amazon and it comes to the house. No need to go out looking for it.
