2013 Thor ACE 29.2 Draining Chassis Battery

We have a new chassis battery that is now being drained when plugged into shore power. My guess is it has something to do with the Battery Isolator Controller. Does anyone know where is this located and what it looks like? Thanks.

Is the use/store switch on use. If not the batteries won't charge but the interior DC systems will be powered by the converter from shore power.

Another possibility is that on my Axis there is a 50A breaker in the battery compartment that if tripped will act the same as the use/store switch being off.

How do you know your batteries are being drained?

Welcome to the forum. So your coach batteries are charging OK from shore, but not the chassis battery? Do the coach batteries charge from the alternator when you are running the engine (shore disconnected and gen off)? If not, you “might” have a failed “interconnect relay” (also called emergency start relay).......or its control electronics. This is the relay that ties coach and chassis batteries together under certain charging and emergency start conditions. It could also just be a bad connection, etc somewhere.
This relay is physically located inside the Battery Control Cabinet (BCC). The BCC is located at the front engine compartment, driver side, which should be visible when you open the engine bay doors (a black box). If any serious repair is required inside this BCC no shore; no gen; no engine run and battery ground cables should be removed to be absolutely safe. There are schematics and fairly complete documents describing the operation of the BCC components on line (or search this forum) made by RV Custom Products in California.

Also note the interconnect relay functions on sensed battery voltage levels and operational delay timers. So it may not operate instantly or release instantly. There is also a very good video on You Tube of someone actually opening a BCC and describing it in good detail.

Thumbs up

Thanks for your reply. I believe I resolved the issue last night and it was a combination of things. It's possible the Store/Use button was set to Store by accident and the Emergency Start button was also pressed by accident causing all batteries to drain. We just purchased this unit and we were doing a deep clean. I pressed Use and the 50 AMP reset button in the Power Control Box then charged the battery and hooked up shore power again. Seems okay now. Thanks for your reply,

Your Emergency Start button is supposed to be a momentary press ad hold switch. It should not stay engaged without operator action.
