Jumping dead battery

My starter battery seems to be dead, I have tried to jumpstart it, but even with the cables attached, when I turn on the key, nothing, no lights or anything.
Suggestions?

May not be the battery then.

Battery shows 1 volt

If a battery is too far gone, you may not be able to even jump start the vehicle.

One volt on the battery, especially if it is disconnected from the vehicle, means the battery is probably a goner. Will it take a charge if you disconnect it from the vehicle?

Have to remove it, a somewhat involved process. Will try to do it this weekend.
