F53 V-10 Oil drain plug size

What is the oil drain plug size on a 2016 Ford F53 6.8 ltr V-10? I do my own oil changes and want to purchase an oil drain valve to make it easier.

If your looking at the fumoto valves i belueve its the f 106. Not positive on this jgst go to their site and input your vehicle and it will tell you which valve to get. Ill be getting mine soon too

Just checked since i need one also. F106n. The n is for the nipple that you attach the drain hose to

I'll be ordering one of those plugs...

What have you found best way to catch the oil when removing the filter??
Propping a drain pan just under it (above cross linkages) did catch it fine... Getting that pan out was another story. Figure someone found a better 'mousetrap' for that...

Haven't changed mine yet and I am NOT a mechanic. But I will be ding mine. I have read some posts on irv2.com and several people have made suggestions on this.

1. loosen the oil filer
2. Then use a gallon size freezer bag. Place it around the filter and unscrew it. The filter and oil will go into the bag. Just make sure you have a good hold on the bag leaving enough room for the oil to drain into it.

Another person said he uses a 2 liter soda bottle. Cut the bottom off then squeezes the bottle to unscrew the filter.

I like the bag suggestion better. At least you can seal the bag when done. My luck I would drop the bottle and the oil and filter would roll down my driveway.

The first oil change will be the hardest. Draining the oil into the pan. One guy said he rigged up a funnel under the oil plug (so the oil pan wouldn't be on the axle) he had the pan on the ground.

I'll figure something out. Good luck.

Think I'll go with the 2 liter bottle option for the filter - as the oil is typically a bit on the warm side when changing it... (at least the way I have always done oil changes...)

Done 2 changes already - and a PIA to catch all the oil - that drain plug will make things much simpler - looks well worth the cost.
First change I caught everything just fine... second it all got caught - but I wasn't as successful getting the drain pan out after draining the filter...

A few pounds of (non-clumping) kitty little helped clean the driveway - but rather not do that again... it is another hassle to dispose of.

I just ordered and received a "No Mess Drain Plug" off the internet. I also ordered with it an adapter that will drain the filter, without the mess. Together, there were $60, but I think it'll be worth it in the long run. The unit comes with sever adapters, so you do not need the actual plug size for the drain. I confess, I haven't used it yet, since it's cold here in TN, at least for now.

Drain Plug

Sounds easier to let the Ford dealer to do it. I provide the Mobil 1 oil. No oil on the driveway, no driving up on ramps, no dirty clothes, no worry about recycling the old oil. Here is another thing to consider, when you have it done at the dealership they have a record of the service to your engine for warranty purposes that Ford requires. If there is a problem in the future and you need warranty service they have the record and there is no dispute. Just a thought.

Haven't had a nearby Ford dealer that could handle my rig... and too many bad experiences with other places (not that I have great experiences with auto dealers service - but that's for another story/forum)

I feel better doing it myself and knowing it is done right (or at very least no one to blame but myself if it isn't...) - not just the oil change... but greasing the steering linkages (9 points on F-53)... and a chance to inspect everything else from underneath.

Out of Ford's warranty - but my extended service plan just indicates to keep records/receipts of oil/filter purchases if doing yourself...

Nice thing about the fumoto valve is being able to start and stop the oil drain. I use old milk and juice jugs to catch the old oil, when one is full I shut off the valve and get the next container. Super easy and never a mess?

I received my F316L drain plug, but am waiting for a break in the weather to do the oil change.

They note some pan drains are recessed and need an extension adapter to seat the valve.

My drain plug is slightly recessed, but not sure if I need an extension

Anyone with a recent F53 know for sure if an extension is needed or not to install the Fomoto drain valve?

I dont have the "for sure" answer but i say no you dont need the extention. I watched several you tube videos of installs and oil changes using the valve. It seems the american made vehicles dont need it

On fumotos site i entered several different cars in the search. Seems the extention was listed as an add on purchase for foreign can but not listed for fords

Watch some videos it will help

I've installed the "No Mess Drain Plug" which came with 4 adapters, and one did fit. It'll be worth the money in the long run. The filter device wasn't as successful. It probably would work great on a bike, but in my application, it's a bit awkward.

I've changed oil on mine twice and don't use anything special. I simply use a drain pan for both the crankcase oil and the oil that pours out when the filter is removed. The most difficulty I had was pouring new oil in the engine. I had to use one quart bottles.
