Generator hour meter stopped working

Hello all,

I’ve been climbing the steep learning curve with our first RV (2016 Thor Hurricane) and shortly we’ll go on our maiden voyage.

I’ve done most all my preventative maintenance items, but I recently noticed the generator’s hour meter stopped working.

I’ve checked connections on the generator (all look good) and looked at the fuses but I’m not sure if those have any connection to the status panel.

The manuals have been no help. Any steers would be appreciated.

Paul

Is it the meter on the panel inside your coach or the actual factory meter installed on the generator itself? Could be a sending issue?

I agree: check the connections at both ends, and hope that it's not busted somewhere in the middle...

In the meantime...

It’s the meter installed in the coach. I just looked last night, so I have to see which connection on the generator it is, but all contacts and connections appeared good.

Thor MC usually includes an ONAN DVD with maintenance instructions and a help line number with the generator.

I checked the manual but not much help. I did some research online to see how the meters are typically wired, i.e. where in the chain, and I should be able to find the break. If I’m lucky it’s just a dumb, simple thing I did!

I did some more sleuthing and still no luck. The LED indicator next to the hour meter (in the coach) is also inop. I realized that when I've run the generator for it's occasional maintenance run, that we've always been on shore power. I wondered if it was producing power at all! I disconnected the coach from commercial power and tried again. I got AC from the outlets, so I suspect it's somewhere in the hour meter wiring itself. Nothing looked out of place at the generator.

We did have a problem fixed wherein a wiring harness wasn't properly routed and rubbed against the driveshaft, BUT...those wires went side to side across the underside of the coach and were nowhere near the generation or the interior status panel.

I don't anticipate using it much on our upcoming trip, but to be sure I will change the oil and keep an approximate record of the time it runs, then later in the fall have the dealer service look at it.
