That is for the stripped chassis vehicles; the production vans may have had a 95 limit much like the pickups do.

Jamie,

Actually most if not all vehicles to include cars and trucks have some type of speed limiter installed to prevent over revving of the engine.

Ford has even begun to install speed limiters that parents can set on cars their children drive.

The question is at what speed is that limit set and can it be reprogrammed without special tuning.

Ford does offer the 65 and 75 MPH limiters as options on the Transit van which has replaced the production E series.

Those have been in there for quite some time. There is even a feature to program that by key (e.g. on key has "full access" to the car and the other key has limited access--for your teenager or the valet). Even my EV Ford lets me program one key for limited function.

Ford specs indicate the F53 does not have a governed speed limit option. It list it as not available if one compares the features of the F53 vs F59. Only the F59 shows an option for a fleet speed limit. Interesting distinction they use, but in either case not available in F53. I'm not suggesting you guys are wrong, just that Ford doesn't list it or calls it something else.

Engine speed limits (RPM REDLINE) and vehicle speed limits can be so unrelated due to gearing that controlling one to control the other seems impractical to me. Just my opinion.

Snapshot of Ford's spec when comparing the F53 vs F59. F53 on right.

I don't remember exactly how fast I got mine up to. I don't make the habit of pushing too hard..... but I don't putter along either, normally running the speed limit. One time I did get the speed up pretty good though, and never ran into any governor.....

I believe that Ford configures them in anticipation of sales and then when Thor places an order whatever Ford has is what Thor receives.

I did not have a governor on my 2003 Forest River Sunseeker either - loved it as could get a good run for the hills with that E450.
