Has anyone considered StarLink?

Just asking: Has anyone considered using SpaceX's StarLink internet service to use in their RV for Internet/TV (with that and a streaming cable service you'd be golden anywhere in North America)?

https://www.starlink.com/

Speeds around 50Mbps - 150Mpbs and latency around 20ms - 40ms (to start out) doesn't seem so bad and it would work anywhere.

https://arstechnica.com/information-...-500-up-front/

I've been pondering it. Given the price mentioned in the article I would have to replace our home internet with it as well to make it cost effective but when/if we're on the road more I may seriously consider it.

Add in a VOIP phone plan that works over the internet and a streaming service and you would never be out of communication from anyone.

When it becomes a reality with full coverage we will consider it. Right now it just started BETA testing in the NW US. Still has a ways to go.

I'm taking a "wait and see" approach to it; but I hope that it works out!

It is ground based only. Can't be made Mobile. On purpose.
It is GPS coordinated to your location.
Supposedly it will work only at the address that you have prescribed the service to.

That doesn't mean it won't work in other locations (assuming there is coverage) but it is not approved to work at other than the service address of record.

BTW - $500 for the equipment and $100/month for service in the first BETA stage.

Apparently it does work if you take it "away from the home base":

I signed up for the beta testing a few months back, but I didn't get an invite. I am probably not north enough living in southern portion of New York.
It would be nice to have another option for internet service.
I would definitely sign up if it is mobile, and it probably will be in the future.

I read the same thing. Kinda pricey. And your signs, will be blocked or reduced on bad weather days like normal satellite.

It probably is if you consider it as you would your primary home based ISP but I can see the value if I'm able to take it with me on the RV when not at home considering now we pay our monthly cost at home and then a hotspot cost for on the road.
We'll actually save money.

Looks like they're already testing it out on ships so, mobility must be a possibility. It sounds like it's no more than a dish outside and a router inside.... easy enough to make a detachable setup to take with you.

I hope the systems works like they hope. I am just waiting for a chance to drop Spectrum and the $215 a month bill for cable and TV. FCC rules do not allow competitors so they charge what they want, but that may also limit where Starlink can provide service. Now that unbiased news is no longer available, I don't really need TV service anymore. I can probably get by with Roku and Amazon Prime.

I am internet only. I put an antenna on my roof for the local networks, added an airtv box with a HDR so now I can stream the local channels to any location.
I use Magicjack for the home phone.
I use Amazon firestick for streaming other video content.
Fixed price mobile internet would be a plus.
