OBD Port

Does anyone know where the OBD port is located on a 2017 Aria 3901?

Also, engine will not start, I think it is because I have a check engine light on and the DEF indicator is one light steady red and the DEF tank gauge says Empty even though there is more than a half tank of DEF.

Anyone else with a similar experience?

Hi John,
Have not had that experience. The OBD port is a round port with a green cap. Mine is directly behind the parking brake knob facing down. There may be another in the engine compartment above the radiator if I remember correctly. It does not resemble an automotive OBD11 port.

Just search Amazon for OBD2 Scanners and you'll find a ton. Depends on what you are looking for.

You can also search for Scanguage or OBD2 heads up display.

The OBD2 Port isn't round its rectangular--although on an Aria not sure if the Freightliner chassis has the same connector that your normal car does.

Fteightliner used the 9 pin round port, unlike automotive. Adapters are available for 6 and 9 pin round OBD ports for OBD2 scanners.

Ah yeah that is the heavy truck OBD 2 protocols instead of the automotive ones.

Yes I found the green round OBD port under the dash and one near the oil fill cap.

For information I had called Freightliner support and the rep explained that the empty DEF indicator would not keep the engine from starting. He thinks I lost prime to the fuel pump, will try his workaround tomorrow. He also said some faults get cleared if you leave the key in the ON position for two hours, without trying to start the engine. So I tried that and killed part of the time replacing the air filter (oh what a fun job). So time passed and I tried to start the engine and no joy.

Tomorrow I am going to buy a heavy truck OBD reader that is supposed to be able to do a lot of good things, I will report if it is worth the $315 plus tax plus an hour and half ride each way to get it.

Thanks for the help and suggestions so far.

If you get an adapter (J1939 type 2 - green to OBD2) in order to use a conventional code reader or other ODBII device, you may need to swap the ground pins in the OBDII connector side because the adapters often take the ground pin of the J1939 (pin A) to pin 5 (signal ground) of the OBDII but your device may need Chassis Ground on pin 4 instead. (I had this issue when trying to use a Banks iDash, but couldn't get the iDash to read Freightliner stuff I wanted anyway..)

I've been waiting for someone to suggest checking your coil wire.

Well the MH got towed to the Freightliner dealer today, Custom is pretty sure it is a covered warranty issue, all I can do is hope now.

I got to pick up the MH today, worked was warranty covered. Turned out to be a wiring harness issue that was getting frayed the way it was installed. Everything is great now. I am just left with a $1300 tow bill that I have to process through my insurance.

I just noticed it yesterday but forgot where it was. I’ll look tomorrow and reply if I run across it.
I guess I can look forward to this happening to me in the future since everything else has gone wrong with this coach. You name it, it’s been replaced, repaired, or left for dead. I should have bought a Tiffin.
