Battery Maintenance Charger

2018 Windsport 29M (Ford V10)
For winter storage of the RV (live in the northeast), I remove the coach batteries, leave the chassis battery in place, put the RV into heated storage and connect a Battery Minder Charger to the chassis battery. This spring the battery minder was tripped off and the battery needed to be jumped. As I prepare for this fall I spoke to the battery minder engineer. He said the unit I have is plenty for that application provided there isn’t a draw on the chassis battery greater than the amp limit on the battery minder (1.5A) while in storage. With the coach batteries pulled I wouldn’t expect there to be much if any amp draw on the chassis battery while in storage. Does anyone have any experience with using battery minder in a similar application or a similar issue with storage of their RV. Any advice is appreciated. The water level in the battery was fine and am confident the battery minder was not unplugged during the winter.
Thanks.

Not sure what tripped off means, but in any case a 1.5A battery minder should work fine on your chassis batteries. There is a very small parasitic load for chassis electronics, maybe a few tents of an amp, but the minder should keep up with that.

Thanks David. By tripped I meant it was shut off and giving an error code indicating reversed polarity, shorted clips or <3 bolts on the battery, none of which I knew to be true, hence the call to the company. Only explanation was the possibility of the parasitic draw. Very helpful guy, he is sending a new unit to eliminate the possible bad unit. We’ll see
Thanks again.

I've used the Battery Minder 1500 for chassis battery for last 2 years with no problems. Seldom store unit for more than a month at a time. Lot more "storage in place" recently..

I like to use Deltran's Battery Tender models.
