Best mount point for an EZ Pass?
Hi All,
New 2023 Thor Quantum WS31 owner here. We want to install an EZ Pass toll transponder on our rig, and we're wondering whether the front-facing window of the sleeping area above the cab will be a good place to mount it? It looks like the overhang of the sleeping compartment could block the EZ Pass if we place it in the normal windshield location. Thanks in advance for your insights.

Yes that front facing window should work fine. And once you install the transponder you usually never have to touch it again. Not sure how the batteries hold up but they do. We have had one on our SUV and it has been working well for 8+ years.

Mine is mounted on the lower part of the cab windshield just above the Mobileye camera. EZ pass has different transponder class codes for towing (blue) and not towing (black) so it does have to be changed periodically. I have never had an issue with toll booths reading the transponder.
And before you so called experts start chiming in, I posted the EZ Pass class codes documentation and requirements on a thread last year. EZ Pass toll booths only count axles on the commercial trucks with the large commercial toll transponder. Also verified by talking to EZ Pass reps in person and on the phone.

The scanners/readers are at rear view mirror level. That's why they say to place it near the rear view mirror. Never had an issue with them getting their money with the Super C...biggest overhead cap in the industry.

At the center top of windshield on our ACE under the brow. Works fine. They have a lot of "forgiveness" as far as location goes.

I towed a boat to the Keys once with my GMC 2500. Placed a Sunpass in the truck windshield and the boat windhiled. I got charged 4 axles twice all the way down and back. They gladly laughed and refunded the charges but know...if you're towing it will count the axles and charge one Sunpass for all of them.

The EZ Tag in Texas included MH instructions. Mount in the center, about 4” up from the BOTTOM of the windshield. Puts it in about the same location as in my car.

We just lay it on the dash of our E450 and have never had an issue. We have the EZ-pass and the Sunpass. When in Florida we move the Sunpass from the motorhome to the car because there are so many places there that charge a toll.

The scanners/readers are mounted on gantries way above anybody's rear view mirror - they work off radio waves (RFID).
They tell you to place it near the rearview mirror so they don't block your field of view.

We spend a lot of time in south Florida so I have an I-pass on the class a windshield and a sunpass pro on the towed vehicle when not being towed. The reason for this is because I can't seem to remember to transfer the transponder between vehicles! When I am towing I take the towed vehicle sun pass transponder off the windshield so I don't get charged twice. I have put it in the console of the towed vehicle and it still worked. I now have to put it in foil and hide it at the bottom of the console. I'm convinced that anywhere on the windshield or console will be more than adequate.
