'Simpler' is really not a problem. The induction just displays the output differently. On a regular stove, the knob shows 1 to 10 lets say, the induction gives you the option of 'Watts' of 'Degrees'. So in watts, ours goes from 'off' to '1800' in 200W increments (similar to 0 to 9) or you use degrees in ˚F or ˚C in various increments. We found Watts a little easier to 'understand' and I think the default starting point when turned on is 1200 Watts.
Ours stays outside by the outlet where DW and I do the majority of cooking, near the fire (if used), grill, portable gas burner... I usually run another 20A cord from the pedestal.
When shopping the only concern I was told about is the noise the unit can make. They may have a loud fan that some do not like, so read reviews.
