Tire monitoring

Can anyone one recommend a good tire monitoring sysyem for a diesel pusher?

I've have several over the years. I am currently using TireMinder:

TireMinder A1A Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with 6 Transmitters for RVs, MotorHomes, 5th Wheels, Motor Coaches and Trailers



I like the TireMinder because it doesn't constantly scroll through all the tires. It only shows an event if it needs your attention. I find the systems that scroll distracting.

Also, it's very compact.

However, I think you will be happy with almost any system.

from what I can tell reading another well established and well trafficked forum
Pressure Pro has been around a long time and has a good following, good customer svc, etc...
and
pretty much all the others are ok too.

I went with a system from TST

I like it just fine. Seems to work, but I haven't had a real alarm situation to prove it.... knock on wood

I liked the look of the interface better, and the receiver display is nice and small. I was able to find a nice place to mount it on the dash.

I went with the flow through sensors with user replaceable batteries
I've second guessed taht a few times, and think that I might should have gone with the factory replaceable batteries for longer life. I have a feeling it will seem like I have to change the batteries often.... I haven't had it long enough to need that yet, but i figure it might be close by the time I use the coach next.

I have bought rigid valve extenders to get the inner rear transmitters more accessible, thinking that when i know I'm parking it for a while I'll just get into the habit of removing them all to extend the battery life....

My coach is 32 ft class C and I don't need a signal repeater, but I understand some of the longer RV's might especially if you include a toad's tires. This I think is true for all of them.

I have had the the TST (Truck System Technologies) since 3/8/2010. Updated to the replaceable batteries in 2013. Their service is unbeatable.

I just bought a internal system from TST, but haven't installed it yet. The upside to the internal system is that the batteries last much longer and the sensors are completely out of harms way. The downside is that the tires have to be dismounted to install.

I plan on buying additional valve stem sensors to install on whatever trailer/ toad I'm pulling

I also have the TST system. On my previous coach, I had the standard sensors. On my new coach, I have the flow-through sensors. One big issue with the flow-through sensors is that they stick out from the rim quite far. Not a problem on the rear tires, but on the front tires, they're way out there. I'm going to look to see if there is a 90 degree adapter so that the sensor doesn't stick out so far.

I do have one problem. The rear inside tires have valve extensions on them to make the valve accessible. However, it is the type of stem that does not allow a tire pressure gauge (or the remote sensors) to read the air pressure. I'm going to speak with a tire specialist to see what can be done.

I have the TST with the flow thru sensors. I really like the constant Temp and pressure readout. I put the flow through valve caps on the rears so I can fill without removing anything except the hub cap. I installed mine last April and the batteries are holding up. I did check and found that you can get the replacement CR1632 batteries for $1.50 ea on Amazon. I am about to get the tires rotated and will just replace all the batteries protectively. As a side note the TST flow thru is active all the time so you can just switch on the display and within 2 min you get readouts from all your tires. Many of the others only wake up after you start moving, I like gettng air in the tire before I start driving on it.

Good timing in waking up this thread

I finally got my MH out of storage after several months of life getting in the way.
One of my chores was to replace the batteries in my TST flow throughs

Some had dies a couple months back but I just hadn't had the chance to get at them.
At this point now, my system is only 8 or 9 months old (since I bought it)

Anyway, what I found was a warning to others:

1) Several of the factory batteries had leaked and corroded the transmitters

2) two or three of the o-rings sealing them were bad... cracked and broken, looked like they were old and oxidized

3) And the last thing - I had used some metal chromed dust caps that I had lying around on a couple of them. Galvanic corrosion had set in and had messed up the inlets pretty well.

The first two issues looked to be age related. Perhaps the system I bought had been on the shelf a while before I bought it. Regardless, my advise is not letting the batteries get too low, and be prepared the o-rings might be compromised. I suggest carefully removing the o-rings for inspection and cleaning before replacing the batteries, for a good seal.

The second issue was my fault, purely accidental, but still something for others to watch out for.

After cleaning, I found that three of them worked, and three seemed to be dead

I ended up shipping mine off to the factory, hopefully they will stand behind at least some of them under warranty.

I sure hope I dont find trouble like you did. My sensors came with spare O rings and I will make sure to put some silicon grease on them when I install the new batteries.

I have the TST on my TV & RV total of 10 sensors that have been on almost 3 years & have only replaced 5 of the batteries in that time. I didn't get the flo thru due to them being so much longer. I too like the pressure & temperature feature, so you can possibly prevent a blow out due to overheating. If you turn off the monitor when not in use the sensor batteries will not be draining. With the TST no amplifier/booster needed for longer vehicles, I have a long bed crew cab & a 40' 5er & have no problems with connecting to all 10 sensors.

I had to follow up with them since I hadn't heard on my warranty claim and we're heading out soon. It seems like they were busy...
but they tested and overnighted my sensors back to me. Supposed to get them today.
I'm not sure yet, but I think they replaced them all under warranty, no problem.

I also learned that they are happy to send out replacement o-rings free of charge for future battery changes.

I have the TST system with the flow-through sensors. The system works very well. I have a 41 foot Tuscany, and I still did not require the repeater to monitor the four tires on my Jeep. The only issue I've had is that the sensors are a little quirky to install. When I first put them on my new coach I got four of the six working right out of the box. The two inner tire stems were not compatible with the sensors. I had to get some different extensions to make them work. I could tell because unlike the first four sensor when I could hear the little hiss of air when I screwed them on, the two inner wheels made no sound.

I was glad when I finally got the inners working because I discovered that my right inside tire was completely flat! I'm pretty sure it was due to a faulty tire extension that slowly bled the air down. It's hard to detect something like that without the monitor.
