Three pictures: the Battery Compartment, the first Disconnect Switch Attempt, and the final fix of the job...
Can anybody tell me why It needed to be re-wired?

You have both negatives hooked up to the same terminal thus rendering the switch useless. Although it does look nice. Looks like in the second pic the left Batt is not hooked up to the right Batt, just to ground so no neg connection between both Batts.

That's how it looks to me, the cutout switch is not cutting anything out!

Looks to me the disconnect was only disconnecting 1 battery.

Hang on a sec: what is that cable that snakes off to the right from the right battery? Where does it go? If that grounds somewhere your disconnect still doesn't disconnect anything!

One of the 6V may still be applying power if the cutout is not at the end of the line wouldn't it?

You guys all win the bag of candy! My mistake was in first hooking the RH battery ground cable to the output side of things.
Once I moved it over to the input side: things worked as they should.

Hey Bob, Look at it this way. You were not stupid for anything, sometimes we get so excited doing something on our units we forget the little things. We have all done it at one point or another.

So give yourself some credit for doing the work and showing us something to discuss. I just wish I could find out why my master kill switch form the chassis 2 x12 volts doesn't do anything to cut power at all!
