Updated Axis/Vegas Specific Manual with Checklists

Back in October I made a Axis/Vegas Owners' Manual and Checklist available to anyone who might want one. To date I have received and distributed 230 copies.

My intent was that this manual would be a living document. As I learned more about my Vegas I'd make revisions to the manual to reflect that new information. Additionally as new discussions and problems were submitted by owners on the Thor Forums I'd also update the manual to reflect that information. In addition, I changed the format from letter size paper to A5 paper (approximately 5.5" X 8.5") to fit standard PDA notebooks.

The manual is currently on its 3rd version and has been amended 16 times. In the past I distributed the manual by asking anyone who wanted a copy to send me an email. Unfortunately, as I amended the manual I did not send out emails distributing the new information.

Anyone desiring an updated manual can go to the link below to my Microsoft OneDrive and download a new manual. If you select "Download" on the menu line a MS Word version will download. If you select ". . ." from the menu line there is an option to download a PDF version of the manual.

I clicked your link and received a message that the link was no longer available. Is there still a way to obtain your manual? I just purchased a 2016 Vegas 24.1. Thanks.

The link process worked for me, too. Another step forward. Does this forum have stickys to show posts like this that new people can see quickly?

Ed, I can't begin to express my appreciation for this great tool, and the updates. No doubt relieving countless headaches!

Sir
Why 65 rear and 75 front in your manual? Tire pressure stated in coach says 75 lb all tires.
Thanks for reply

What year and model chassis do you have? My 2016 E-450 says 80 in front and 75 in the duals. May be the difference between the 350 and 450 chassis? Go with what your coach says and you can't be wrong. RVs are not full assembly line entities. They make changes as they go along every year - some small and some large. In the 2016 year for example they started out with the 350 chassis and 5 Spd transmission and changed to the 450 chassis and 6 Spd transmission mid year. So all 2016s will not have even the same tire pressures.

12 Volt Power receptacle

Mr bevedfelker

On my 2015 Axis 24.1 I blew the 12 Volt Power receptacle so I had to find the fuse for the two receptacles. Here are the details. Thor support could nnot help so rthey now have this information also.

Feel free to add to your manual.

Ed you are the man for doing this.. Thank you.. I don't have an Axis but my cousin does.. And this is very helpful.. I did a quick glance through it looks great.. How I came across it I was looking how to check fluids in chassis battery and Battery removal.. I didn't see that in your manual. But might have missed it.. I did find in though on the forum..

Checking the fluid level in the chassis battery in the 2014 & 15 Axis & Vegas is a Royal PITA. The only real way to do it is to cut through the top of the dash like the link you posted for removing the battery shows. Just getting the caps off and then trying to get a mirror and flashlight in through the front is beyond belief. And don't get me started about getting the oil cap off and putting oil in the engine.

Before anyone signed off on this procedure at Thor, the engineers should have been required to change the battery and do an oil change.

Colonel
First congratulations on your retirement ( whenever that was ) and secondly thank you for your service AND the terrific manual you made available
I am on my way from NC to FL tomorrow ( 9/30/2016) to pick up a new 2016 Vegas 24.1 and I am certain the dealer is going to be "overwhelmed" with the questions I have for him !!!
Been through your most recent addition and feel well prepared to handle anything that might come up
It's been 40 years since my last RV so, as you might imagine, I'm a little rusty 😬
But, again, your publishing work has put me way ahead of the game
Thanks again from one "old Marine"

Cappy:

Thanks for the kind words. Retired in 2005, I was the AF's Chief of Munitions and Nuclear Weapons when I retired. Had 42 years of continuous active duty -- 13 enlisted to E-7, applied to Officer Training School, commissioned in 1977, and retired as O-6. One assignment was at the Joint Warfighting Center for the JCS. Worked for a great Marine O-6 (Mike Leonard) who made general office and was one of the first commanders at Guantanamo. I have the utmost respect for the Marines -- worked with lots of them throughout my AF career.

Where in FL did you buy the Vegas and what dealership. I bought mine from Tampa General RV in Dover FL just east of Tampa on I-4.

We have the 24.1 and we love that floor plan. Huge amount of exterior and interior storage. We really like the twin bed configuration. Bought mine in Aug 2015 and we have about 8800 miles on it.

Enjoy

Arby -- sorry I never got back to you and recognized you. The information you provided me about the fuse for the 12 VDC power plugs on the dash is now in my manual. Thanks for this information because I have seen several threads of owners looking for and being unable to find that fuse.

Squid & Oneilkeys -- been cleaning up some of the questions/comments directed to me on the threads. Sorry for taking so long to get back to you on tire pressure.

Looks like this is another area full of Thor variance. Possibly Thor regulates the tires pressure based on the final build GVWR and the weight on each axle.. Attached is a picture of the sticker on the wall next to the driver's left arm of my 2015 Vegas 24.1. You can see specific VIN has a GVWR of 5680 lbs with 2268 lbs on the front and 3856 on the back. The sticker then shows 75 psi in the front and 65 psi in the back.

This then confirms the guidance many owners have provided to load the RV as you would based on using it. Then have it weighed and check the recommended pressure from the tire manufacturer on the front and rear loads.
