LOL! Actually Ford just released a 20 minute video today that discusses that--several of the employees are in there going "WHA!? a 4-door SUV Mustang!? NO!" heck even Bill Ford says that early on....

I can live with the "Mach-E" nameplate...
Even though it's supposed to be spelled "Mach-1"!

I could get use to parking a new Mach E next to my old Mach 1.

Although it’s going to take me a while to think of it as a real Mustang. Seems like a cheap marketing ploy to use the iconic Mustang name for what is obviously nothing more than profitability.

It’s Ford’s brand so they can do whatever they want, but it “may” backfire. Time will tell. For now you can’t even place a firm order for one — no guarantee they’ll deliver.

The interesting thing about calling it a Mustang is that everyone is talking about it--free marketing.

Yeah they are only taking "reservations" online at ford.com (nonetheless I have one).

A "real" Mustang is whatever Ford Motor Company calls a Mustang (Mustang II anyone ! LOL). That is why there is a Change.org petition for Ford to change the name; because people who own the cars take ownership of the name when its really Ford's to do with whatever they want (They could rename the Transit a Mustang if they wanted to and there isn't anything anyone could do).

:steps off of soapbox: lol

Actually I think that is the biggest reason for the reservation system on the new car: simply to gauge the interest level (having people put $$ down means that they have some "skin in the game" and are expressing more than just a passing interest--part of the reason I reserved one even if I ultimately don't get one for whatever reason).

I wonder if Ford will publish how many reservations that car has (I would guess that if they get a lot then they will publish the number, on the other hand--If I'm the only one they will keep it mum LOL).

So what did you think of Tesla's truck?
IMHO: The stats appear impressive, and the bodywork looks like a High School Shop Class project.

Looks like a mix of Mad Max and a DeLorean.

Electric pickups will have too short a range if towing a large trailer, so Tesla should appeal more to local contractors and for personal use. Powering tools all day from batteries should be a major advantage.

RV lithium packages could improve motorhomes nicely without such extremes as the Tesla pickup if only battery capacity can be made much larger at reasonable cost. An all-electric “house” could simplify RVs making them more reliable and easier to maintain. That’s my hope anyway.

I’m going to follow what RV manufacturers do with Ford’s new dual-alternator option, which is priced under $1,000. For me adding a second alternator under the hood was the part I didn’t like much about these electric/lithium packages (or with AGM batteries), whether from RoadTrek, Volta, Xantrex, or now Thor.

I’d be much more comfortable with Ford supplying alternator, drive belts, and load controls and limiting RV manufacturers to installing batteries and inverter/charger. Eventually I’d like to see Ford supply a large-capacity lithium battery bank also with fast charging from engine, much like a plug-in hybrid car/truck.

But the Plaid version is wickedly fast, and is said to have a 500 mile range...

I can't wait to see the first one with the "Back To The Future" appearance package installed. Do you think that they can get 1.21 giga-watts out of the battery pack?

Funny you should mention Delorean:
https://spareelectrons.wordpress.com...22/cybertruck/

As far as Range is concerned: Tesla is claiming 300+ miles for the "low end" specs of the truck and 500+ miles for the "high end" specs.

I reserved the least expensive Mach-E: That one is the farthest "out" by date and gets me closer to the lease end date on the Bolt. According to their FAQ, however, once you get to place your order you can change it up however you like. So we'll see what I order vs what I reserved LOL.

How much of a deposit do they need from me: in order to get me to sign my death warrant?

Yeah, the resemblance to DeLorean seems obvious to me. I guess I’m not alone.

As far as range, trucks towing a heavy and large trailer are not even close to cars. A large pickup towing a fiver or even large conventional trailer will need at least 100 HP at drive wheels, so if it’s an electric pickup, batteries will need to supply at least in the order of 100 kW. So a 100 kWh battery would last an hour, and you’d travel 60 ~ 70 miles on the freeway. For towing large fiver you’d need at least 300 kWh of batteries to get in range of 200 miles to empty.

It’s conceivable, but I just don’t see this pickup towing a large RV trailer in near future.

I believe Tesla is only asking for $100 from people to put a reservation down. Which is probably why there are already over 200,000 reservations for the truck (the last article I found said the "Mustang" Mach-E only had about 14,000 as of a couple of days ago @ $500 a pop).
