Any ideas how to keep step in all the time.
With the weather cold and the coach aired out it scrapes each time the door opens.

You should have a step override switch. Turn it on to keep the steps retracted at all times unless the door is open.

Oops! I misunderstood your question. The only way to keep the step retracted at all times - even with door open - is to disconnect it electrically, either via the inline power plug under the steps or by disconnecting the negative cable from your chassis (not coach) battery.

I'm reading this as you don't want the step to extend even when the door is opened...

There is no switch to keep the step in regardless of door position. They will always extend when door is opened for safety. (I'm sure someone would sue them for falling out the RV if they provided such a switch.)

You would need to install a switch - or pull a fuse/disconnect a wire to override the behavior. I've considered doing this before - as parking on street the step can easily hit the curb when extending.

Exactly, at this point I don't want to have it hitting the ground each time it's opened.
I'm not near it now, but I wonder if it's possible to easily remove the sensor from the door ant just tape it to the other end of the sensor as I'm guessing it's a simple circuit switch.

My 2000 Infinity had a pretty simple plug to disconnect under the step.. Had to do so once when it was 'mis-behaving' and opening while I was driving...
Would have to look under my 2014 Hurricane to see if it has similar connections - that will need some daylight...

I concur with gmc. On my 2012 Daybreak there is a simple 4 wire plug under the steps that's easy to unplug. I do it all the time. Don't make it more complicated than that.
