Odd generator problem

Started generator and it ran normally for about one minute and then shut down. Undetected problem was that the main (engine) fuel line was damaged by rodent—engine wouldn’t start. Replaced fuel line (yuk) and engine was good. Attempted to start genny but it would neither prime nor start—turned over OK. Held prime button down for some two minutes and the ticking continued but would not “fill”—stop. Wondering about a system “air lock” preventing prime—no fuel reaching engine. Fuel tank is 2/3 full. Thanks for any thoughts on this oddity.

You might need to use a vacuum pump to reestablish flow in the new fuel line

Try priming again, but avoid burning out your starter

Onan is very proud of the starters

To close the loop. A rodent had also damaged the genny fuel line. Fuel pump was sucking air, not priming. Fuel line splice solved problem.

Yep. Thanks. Not proud of it but first replaced fuel pump—no prime but endless ticking—bad pump? Nope. In my defense, rodent damage was small and hidden in the jungle back there. Too soon I get old……….

What have you done for rodent control?

Always looking for any new ideas

We constantly battle the packrats on the farms

The rodent attacked the engine fuel line at quick disconnect. I’ve wired bronze wool around the connector. The genny fuel line was randomly attacked and have, therefore, done nothing. MH has been parked on military bases for years and rodents have generally not been an issue—save these two.

Thanks. I’ve used Bounce inside—no rodents. Material is fairly tough and may last around fuel line connectors. Easy to wrap/tie. Trying along with bronze wool. Defense in depth.
