Vegas/Axis Electrical system question

Wondering if anyone on the forum might shed some light on this.

Our 2017 Axis batteries were going dead while in storage. I installed a cut off switch on the Chassis (engine) battery (negative side) With the switch cut off, if I turn the ignition key on, the dash lights up and the engine solenoid clicks!
I verified the cut off switch was breaking the negative continuity to ground. My volt meter indicates the house batteries and the engine battery are always tied together-Even if I put the house batteries in "store" position.

Is this normal?

Thanks in advance.

Just a question, why didn't you put the switch on the POSITIVE (+) leg?

elecctrical cut off switch

The switch is a "knife style". Any metal touching it could cause a short.
The instructions recommend putting it on the negative terminal.

My son thinks a solenoid should normally isolate the house batteries from the chassis battery. Perhaps mine is not working.

In addition to that: The + and - posts are different sizes and the knife switch will only fit on the - post--if its the same knife switch I have.

You and your son's suspicion is probably correct: The Trombetta (or BCC) is closed.

Not normal and knife switches always go on the negative side.

I believe that you have a bird relay that is sensing the voltage difference and is operating to try to charge the chassis battery.
The use/store switch only disconnects the coach fuse panel, converter from the coach batteries.
My class c has a delay isolation relay that only operates when engine is running, the knife switch works fine for me

No. I agree that the Trombetta switch is probably closed. This could be the result of several causes. 1) Sometimes relay contacts weld together enough that the internal spring does not open the contacts when the relay coil is not energized and 2) The trombetta may be closing because the engine battery is being sensed as low and the trombetta seeing that the engine battery is low, closes the relay to the house batteries, resulting in power to the ignition switch from the house batteries.
