Battery voltage is usually nearly 14volts when being charged. It may drop to 13 when it's fully charged. The charger reduces it's output when it senses the batteries are topped off.

When I'm on shore power, the inverter is off as there is no need for its use. However, I routinely check it each week by pressing the on button which shows the status. Then, I press the button off. I also have a Miramar and have followed this process for 2 years. Ken

The only time the inverter is needed is when you are on battery power only. If you have shore power or generator power, the inverter is automatically bypassed. If the shore power is unreliable some people leave the inverter on to act as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). Personally I would not do that but it won't do any harm.

The inverter does not charge anything. The inverter provides 120V AC outlet power from the 12V batteries.

The converter charges the batteries from 120V AC.

No charging from Xantech in my Miramar, as expected from an inverter. The link is very helpful. Ken

My Magnum ME2012 is an Inverter/Charger - the only shore or gen power that goes to this unit is to the Charger - no 120v power goes to the Inverter, as it’s job is to take the battery’s 12v power and change it to 120v power, and to the breaker box where it powers circuit breakers for things like the residential fridge and microwave outlets, and outlets in general. Which outlets and where is up to how your factory wires your coach.

YOu certainly CAN leave your Inverter ON, if you wish, when you are plugged in or on generator, as it serves as your ‘backup’ power’ should you lose shore power, or when your generator shuts off - in other words, your satellite receiver and other electronics don’t shut off and have to be rebooted or reset, or your microwave’s clock, etc, as the inverter will immediately switch ‘on’ and continue powering these items.

There’s no ‘rule’ to how you do things, it really depends on your own ‘camping’ style and needs.

In three years and over 70,000 miles, we never ‘turned off’ our Inverter - it’s too valuable a tool not to have ON, even when you don’t ‘think’ you need it...

travel, enjoy!

So am I correct when I say that by leaving the main circuit breaker on for the coach, the batteries are charging, but when the main circuit breaker is off even though you’re connected to shore power, the batteries are not charging?

more than likely

it could have more to do with how your coach is wired, and the type of inverter you have, whether it has the integrated charger... but more than likely if you trip the main breaker, you're going to lose any power coming from the shore or gen, thru the ATS, and into the main breaker panel.
If you look in your breaker panel, if you have a breaker that is labeled 'charger', or even 'inverter', then that breaker is more than likely the one that sends power to the Charger part of the system.

So if I’m going to stay somewhere for any length of time, it would probably make sense to turn off the main breaker so I don’t overcharge the battery?

You’re talking about the breaker for the converter correct

The main breaker at the front door area, the one that shuts all the electricity off.

Thanks, I was always under the impression that it could over charge my batteries
