Putting motorhome on grass

I want to store my motorhome, a Thor Omni 36 foot super C, on the grass. If I put jack pads underneath the jacks should that be adequate? Or is it a bad idea to store something that heavy on a grassy area? (Since it’s next to my house I would like to use it while it’s in storage so I would want it to be level.)

Grass is not the issue, soft ground underneath the grass may be an issue both for the leveler jacks sinking and the tires sinking/spinning on the way out. Realize that any grass under the MH will turn into dirt after awhile since the grass will die.

I have stored ours on grass with no problems, I don’t have levelers so I used the blocks under the tires. My only concern with the levelers would be them sinking in. I would think if you put blocks of some kind that would prevent that. I do try and move mine while it’s stored.

Agreed: you DO need to reduce the ground pressure by spreading the weight out as much as possible.
Is this on your own property? You might want to look into pouring four concrete pads, and ending all issues...

Thanks for the reply. Yes it’s my property but not ready to commit to cement yet since I’m not sure I’ll always keep it there. I saw jack pads on amazon and didn’t know if they would prevent sinking.

I know the feeling: it took me three Seasons to get the Missus to go for a pad of crusher run for ours...
Now I'm working on a 30 amp breaker box for it...

I would use some sort of blocks or wood under the tires and leveling Jacks.

Put small concrete pad under ground grass will grow over them. You can buy them at ace. Pour gravel in hole firs then pad

I bought two sheets of 3/4”x4’x8’ sheets of marine plywood. Cut the sheets in half so I had 4 - 4’x4’ pads that I park the tires on. I don’t use the hydraulic levelers at home because the ground is so uneven. I use leveling ramps instead. The weight of the MH is fairly evenly distributed from the tires through the plywood into the dirt/grass beneath them.

I made pads for each wheel from 4” thick concrete ‘patio blocks’...
gives them something to prevent sinking... and a good target to align to when parking.
Termite guy recommended no wood outside near structure (it is behind the garage) - so concrete it is here.
And yep- no grass survived underneath... lol

You could always just go to some place like Menards and pick up some 24" x 24" paver blocks to put it on.

You'll need to purchase the 4" thick ones, the thinner ones will break to pieces with weight of the rv driving over them.
If you are able build a couple 2'x2' forms, add criss-cross rebar, pour in heavy duty Sakrete to build your own blocks for the tires &/or jacks, dig out the grass, add a couple inches of sand/gravel & set the blocks at ground level, this way they're always in place & you can mow over them til all the grass under the rv dies.o

I go to Lowes and get a couple of 2X12's, they cut them into 3' lengths for the price of the board.

No problem with bugs because I can never get all 10 points of contact to match, I move em all when we leave.

Go home depot / lowes and buy some drainage rock. Dig 4 inches thick making 4 pads, Use any kind pads you want on top of the gravel. Wood is fine, just make sure it it pressure treated.

I was told a long time ago by an old timer that if you parked your RV on soil the moisture could/would lead to rot and rust. For that reason, I have always stored my RVs on a concrete pad.

That is our concern also. Had to park my construction trailer on the grass for a while and could really see lots of moisture build up under. Rust grows fast!

First of all, I need to correct my previous post. I used pressure treated plywood, not Marine plywood. It’s been my experience that termites normally avoid pressure treated wood.
Secondly, Where I park my MH is on an easement that has a huge drainage culvert buried underneath. It’s within my property line but I can’t have anything permanent there in case they have to dig below or access the overhead power lines.
It’s about 30ft from the house and so far, termite guy hasn’t found anything around the house for the past two years.
So, yes using wood is not the recommended method, but in my case, it the best, plus, it’s easier aiming to park on a 4’x4’ surface than a 2’x2’ block of concrete

I didn't follow this sentence, can you or someone clarify "10 points of contact"
