Roads

My first trip in out Thor Quantum was great but the rear end really is ruff on the road....feels like there are no shocks....and thing I can do to make the ride better

You might look into getting Sumo Springs to replace the bump stops .
Ron replaced the bump stops front and rear on our Axis and is very happy with the difference they made.

Could he supply the model # of the type he installed? I have the e450 Axis and can't zero in on the ones that will fit our unit, Thank you !!

Ron installed the SSF 106-40 in front..... SSF 107-54 in rear
**below is a message he received directly from Sumo regarding their recommendations on the rear application.

If you go to the Sumo site, you can view their recommendation for the install. Ron has always worked on our vehicles and had no problem doing the install.

Thank you for your question. There is a rear SumoSprings Solo kit, which is designed to replace the factory bump stop, available in three different densities for you vehicle.

SSR-107-40: 1,000 pounds capacity at 50% compression
SSR-107-47: 1,500 pounds capacity at 50% compression
SSR-107-54: 2,800 pounds capacity at 50% compression
*
The middle density (47) would be most recommended, unless you are towing or hauling additional weight on a frequent basis. If you are, the heaviest (54) would be best.

First get your coach weighed, loaded like you were going on a trip. Second, adjust your tire pressures based on your coach weight and tire size.

One of the bigger problems with rough riding or poor handling coaches is tire pressure to high/low. "Well that's what the dealer said to run" your dealer probably didn't have the coach weighed.

Over my many years I have seen and heard many people say their coach rides rough, when asked how much pressure they run in their tires they say "I put in what it said on the tire." Yes your coach rides rough because you have turned your tires in to rolling rocks.

Gregg, I'm not saying you have done this, just making a suggestion because tire pressure is important and I'm on my soapbox today!

Ron agrees and he is on top of tire pressure, etc. consistently when on the road.

Thanks I checked with the man at the tire place I have always used...he said that I had too much air in that type of tires....I did as he said and will see if it rides better....thanks.

SuperD is correct on tire psi. I wouldn't have Sumos installed thinking they will soften the ride. The first thing I noticed after mine were installed was how much stiffer it rode.

EXACTLY...THIS IS WHAT RON LIKES ABOUT HAVING THE SUMOS INSTALLED. The factory installed bump stops, for all intents and purposes, did nothing in his opinion.

In regards to the items we installed...to confirm any updates from the mfg...go their website. Your Axis, being a newer model, may require a different install.

it's amazing that many who buy an motorhome think that just because the the tire says 'max pressure 120' is the pressure they should be running, but it's just what it says - MAXIMUM pressure, not 'pleasurable pressure'!

The weight of the axles will determine the correct and 'best' pressure for the tires - until you actually weigh your 'fully loaded' coach, not only with 'stuff', but water, fuel, and PEOPLE, you'll never really know.

My tires read '120 max pressure', but after weighing it, the axles for front and rear are different - 85 psi for the fronts, and 90 psi for the rears - runs smooth and nice.

Well said. My sticker and pressures state 120PSI as well. After weighting I an running 105 in all tires and it has resulted in a smoother ride.

My tire pressure is perfect, no problems there.
