How good is direct TV in a campground? Is it worth the investment?

We use Dish Network at campground. Need to pick a campsite with a clear view of southern sky. Works great.

Its as good (or bad) as your line of sight to the satellite and current weather conditions...
Worth the investment? That's up to you... Those with DirectTV at home that can add the RV service for $7 a month seem to have a great deal. If you don't have it at home too - it is pricey (in my opinion...)

What's the $7/month charge for? I just take my 2 boxes from the house & use them in the motorhome, and nobody seems to mind.

Dish charge of $7 per month is if you have a receiver just for the RV. No charge if you take receiver from home.

IMO, it's not worth the $$! We are not huge sports fans, don't have certain programs we must to watch, don't watch any of the reality programs & as long as we can get the local weather wherever we are we're good. We can get usually 40+ channels on the antenna at almost all parks which gives the major networks to watch, the satellite tv just gives more of nothing to watch.

Hugh -- I think traveling is referring to the antenna that is standard on the coach. When we use ours on the Vegas at Fort Wilderness we get about 65 srstions, at Hershey we picked up 45, and out in the PA boonies we got 40 stations. Usually the only time we watch TV is late at night before bedtime. And then we are only interested in the news and weather. The rest of the time we have it on just for distracting noise. Generally, we'd rather be outside walking or just relaxing and talking.

For an additional $7/month to home Direct TV or Dish Network account, you can get a receiver you can leave in your RV. Otherwise, you have to bring a receiver from your house. You need to purchase an antenna ...... either a regular portable dish or a tailgator/winguard.
