SEIKI TV's are NG
The first one of our 3 SEIKI Tv's to go was the outside one. Only used once, but it was probably the outside dampness, who knows.
The second one I just discovered that has a problem is the bedroom TV. It gets a picture, but the upper left side is all full of lines rendering the TV useless.
The one over the door is still working at the moment, so in two years, two out of three SEIKI TV's have gone bad.
The outside one I will not replace as it is not really used much, but the one in the bedroom I am replacing with a Sanyo that I had lying around.
The problem I have with the bedroom TV is the way Thor mounted the TV to the wall. They used a tapered fixed metal mount that I discovered only slides off the bracket in the direction of the window. This means that you have to remove the cornice in order to have the room for it to sled off the bracket.
When I replace the TV, I hope to rotate the bracket 180 degrees, so that it can slide in from the hall area towards the window. That way I never have to remove the cornice again. Just another stupid move by Thor.
You get what you pay for and I am sure Thor purchased the cheapest TV's they could

Some do, some don't
So, how many broadcast standards are out there? I had to buy a convertor box to see the cable at Florida state parks but was able to see the cable with no problem in Williamsburg last week. What was the difference????
Thanx,
Dan

You will be fine with the converter box. Originally the broadcast industry created the ATSC standard for over-the-air broadcast of digital signals. But the cable industry needed more. They created the QAM standard.
The older SEIKI TVs just supported the ATSC standard. [Note, a friend with a 2017 Vegas has the newer SEIKI that supports both standards]. The converter box that you will buy supports both standards. There is no other standards inside the US.

You originally had Analog cable, same channels as OTA up to 13, then switched to a different spectrum for the rest.
Then with the big Digital change-over you had to have a QAM tuner to get unencrypted digital cable TV.
Now, many cable companies have changed to encrypted digital service which requires a set-top box in order to receive even the basic free and local channels. Some TVs may have a provision for a CableCard which allows the TV itself to decrypt the signals.

So far, I’ve had good luck with my Seiki tv’s.
1) plug into park cable
2) push the cable booster switch in my AV cabinet
3) switch my tv to cable under set up menu
4) run channel scan and it locks channels that have a good signal.
Some channels are fuzzy, but most; 80% are good watchable channels.
I was told that i needed a converter box as well, but so far that has not been the case!
I’m sure one of the many MacGyvers will flame me!!!

I'm just glad that there are so many folks that have already done the "Heavy Lifting" on these issues...
I just want to be able to turn on the T.V. at night, and fall asleep during the Weather forecasts.

I'm so thankful to Thor for scouring the planet in an attempt to find the worst possible TV for our RVs. Job well done Thor.
BTW, I'm Norwegian and take exception to them using the name Thor.

When I tried to do the bypass mod to the amplifier wallplate so I could hook my satellite coax to the cable TV port, I kept getting the "No Signal" response. When I would run the coax through the window direct to the receiver, it worked fine. Finally, I bought a coax tester, hooked the terminal end to the exterior cable tv port and the tester to the other end of the coax (at the wallplate end) and it said the coax was open. Since we were leaving the next day, I didn't mess with it anymore, just hooked everything back up and used the satellite during our trip with the coax run through the window to the receiver.
The final night of our trip, we stayed in a campground with cable TV (first time since we've had the RV), so I decided to try it, assuming I would not get anything since my coax tester told me the coax was open. I hooked the park's cable to the exterior port, turned the amplifier off, selected cable on the TV's setup screen, did a channel search, and was surprised when it found about 30 channels. I was expecting zero. However, none of them were clear enough to watch. So now, I am not sure if I really do have a coax issue. Was the park's cable bad? Does my Seiki need the converter? Or is my coax partially open enough to degrade the signal? I think this whole issue has bypassed my ability to figure it out.

Not true. You use your remote and select Source. Then go to Menu and move to Setup. Select Cable. Select Scan. Select Start Scan. Once it goes through all channels and says complete, you’re ready to watch tv.

The Seiki TVs will NOT work on all campground cable systems since the Seiki TVs don’t have a QAM tuner. In some campgrounds you will need a converter to use their cable, it depends on the type of system the campground uses.

Often Incompatible Brands
Experience suggests many of the following lessor brand TVs may NOT include QAM Tuner support and may not function with the Cable TV system.
Manufacturer
Apex
Dynex
Element
Emerson
Haier
Insignia
RCA
Seiki
Sylvania

QAM is a method of tuning digital cable channels. It is inside the TV. The QAM signal comes in through your coax cable connection.

I should have asked where does the digital converter box connect if my Seiko Tv's do not have Qam. Outside before plugging cable into Axis or inside?
