How does an ac unit run set at 81 or 82 ? Mine shuts off if set that high. I do have an issue with the humidity in my coach and have trying to figure out how to deal with it. It's worse in the winter months. I'm the Mojave Desert and during the summer, No problem...

Not sure why I’d use my ac for humidity control while in storage. Small dehumidifier sitting in the shower stall to drain seems good to me. When traveling use the AC. Otherwise the dehumidifier is in my house basement.

We purchased a room-size electric dehumidifier (takes care of 400 sq. ft., which is just a bit more than the RV interior). We set it in the shower, so the water pulled from the air drains down the shower drain (no need to continually have to dump the water reservoir). It is set at 35%. Obviously, we have "ship to shore" power. When we were in Galveston in January, the outside humidity was almost 100%; inside we were able to maintain around 40%.
Seems the way to go. They aren’t expensive and I’d rather not have the wear and rare on the ac which imo is overkill for a storage solution.

I also live in Arkansas...central AR where the humidity gets quite high for long periods of time. I store our rig indoors. it is not insulated. So we get shade, but that's about it. In the past storing outdoors we used a dehumidifier and tea tree oil, but you have be to able to go dump the water now and then.

Where we are now we have 30 amp hookup, so I have the A/C set in the mid-upper 70s during the summer. I have a 5 gallon bucket set where it typically drains condensation. I have to empty that bucket every couple weeks in the summer here. Just think...that's water that would have been in our furniture and clothes we keep in it. And the mattresses. Damn!!

In the winter it gets too cold here for the a/c to kick on, so out comes the de-humidifier. I still go check everything every couple weeks. That things always has an amazing amount of water in it. I set the de-humidifier to 45%. We have never had the slightest mold or mildew anywhere in the rig.

Put out some of that tea tree oil stuff, too. It is a mold/mildew inhibitor and leaves a nice non-perfume scent inside the rig. If you keep your slides in it should seal well enough for the dehumidifier in the winter and certainly enough for the a/c in the summer. Opening vents in the southeast US only ALLOW MORE HUMIDITY IN. I have told friends this who did not listen then complain about the mildew smell.

If you have the advantage of electricity during storage run that a/c and, when needed, a de-humidifier.

Dehumidifier

I have used Davis Air Dryers for years. No problems and no moving parts.

The effectiveness and need for de-humidification is a very regional thing. If you've never spent a few days along the Southern Coastal Plains during the summer, you have quite the experience ahead of you. What works "up north" and "out west" are completely different. It's hard to stop a "mildew train" once it gets rolling downhill.

One review says it has s small fan?
Another says 165 degrees?

Does it have a controller so when the humidity is low it isn’t on?

Thanks. Like the idea over a humidifier

Try 85% as an average over a few summer months. Add a billion "no-see-ums", mosquitos so huge the have wheels on their legs...
It's hot and humid.

As Gritz stated above, Florida is a much different animal than West and Northeast. My unit is usually at my North house (Highlands County) which is only mildly less swamp like than my South house which is along edge of everglades. Even with lows in high 50's to low 60's daytime heat gain will usually cause A/C to run enough that inside never gets damp feel or smell. My wife is very sensitive and appreciates how it is inside. We are approaching 3 years and just passed 22,000 miles. Unit still smells like it did when we brought home. We recently moved my disabled sister in law to Florida after her husband passed in Charleston SC. We have spent enough time there to see climate is very like our areas in Florida. What works here may work there. But, a big but everything involving RV requires a degree of try and see.

PS - North house has irritating mosquitoes and little biting gnats. South house has the mega mosquitoes that laugh when you smack them.

It's a radiant heater. I don't see how it actually removes moisture from the air. It just heats the air making it capable of holding more moisture which "lowers" the relative humidity but doesn't remove the existing moisture.

Seems that a dryr is the only way to go if in freezing temps. Thoughts?
