Thor 24.1 fridge ammonia

To all 24.1 Thor owners. Anyone have to have their fridge replaced. We smelled an ammonia smell and have been told that our fridge Has to be replaced. Has anyone done this, if so were you able to remove it through the door or did they have to take the windshield out? If you’ve had it replaced how much was it to have the whole thing done?

There are replacement cooling modules, the so called Amish ones, that can be purchased and swapped out for the bad one for about $1,000. Lots cheaper and easier than replacing the whole thing.

I might double check if your question is based solely on smell.
You didn't say if the fridge is working or who diagnosed the situation.

Ammonia smell

The Ammonia smell was so bad that we couldn’t sleep in it the first night we smelled it. I had to unplug everything and turn it off, it still took a couple days for the smell to go away. Outside if I take the back off the fridge and put my nose behind the panel after a week and a half I still smell ammonia.

Yep, stick a fork in it - the cooling unit is done.

I had the same thing happen in a TT in 2011 - I opted to replace the cooling unit with one from https://rvcoolingunit.com/. Worked great until we upgraded the TT in 2014.
