Those of y'all that use your cellphone for a hot spot

I'm sorting things out for our Spring maiden/shake down cruise. I don't want to know about stuff like Mobley, T-Mo ISP, stuff like that. I only want to know: if you are using your cellphone for a hotspot, and stream a relatively conservative amount (some YouTube/Rumble/Roku) with the rest OTA. Add to that a fair amount of regular browsing & email checking. About how many gigs do you use? Please, please, please, do not make this complicated. K.I.S.S. I just want ballpark figures. I know, I know... "It all depends on how much you use." I get that. What I'm asking is for a rough estimate if you are a conservative streamer/Internet user.

Thanks, y'all.

We do exactly as you asked.
About 13 gig in two weeks.
We have a 10 gig base and pay $15 per gig overage.
We would rather pay the occasional overage than get a bigger base for a bigger fee.

And
Download some movies and series onto your phone using your home Wi-Fi.
We watch very very bad b movies when on the road using a USB c to HDMI cable.

Thanks! My wireless provider (PureTalk) offers 60GB + 15GB Hotspot for $55. That's why I'm asking. I'm assuming they are throwing in a separate hot spot but until I talk to them don't know for sure.

Probably not a separate hotspot, but a limit on using your phone as a hotspot. Lotsa providers do that.

I would classify our use as "minimal". We enjoy traveling to "off the beaten path" spots - mountains etc. where there are spotty cell and OTA TV signals. No problem for us... we travel to get outside in the great outdoors - hiking etc... NOT to go watch TV in the woods!

If a decent signal IS available, we use a phone hotspot (AT&T Visible unlimited plan) and stream to a Fire Stick. We aren't concerned with data usage... Visible works like most cheap "unlimited" plans... data slows when the tower is congested. Not likely with us... we're out in sparsely populated areas, and don't stream endless movies.

Caveat: The wife will retire next year and likely work part-time from the road. In which case we'll be forced to search out a nearby AT&T tower when she's working - but we still would just use the Visible phone hotspot.

Yes - we hot spot all the time, when a good signal is present. Even do my work while camping. Use our smart TVs, and watch all we want. My data plan is pretty open, but I was surprised at how little I used in a heavy week of usage. I love the hot spotting, and of course my I Heart Radio while traveling.

That's fine but it doesn't answer my question. The question is "What is your average GB usage per week... month?

Ours is Verizon Unlimited plan. After 15 gigs of hotspot usage, they limit the speed. We watch Amazon and Netflix and it seems to do just fine.

Update: I just checked our Verizon bill for the trip we took up to Washington state. On the last night, we used my phone's hot spot and used about 11 gigs watching a couple of hours of TV.

I do it all the time with a tracfone. If I'm surfing the web, checking email, downloading books to my Kindle and a couple of youtube videos at 144p, 4 or 5 gig will last a month.

When we exclusively used the hot spot our monthly usage was 50 to 60 Gigs.

Most service providers allow you to see how many gig you have used monthly through their app. If that is the case, just check your usage one day and then test it out ... 3 movies, some youtube, emails etc. Try and mimic what you might use. Then check usage and do the calculation. It will get you close.

I travel with two service providers, Verizon and AT&T. My cell hotspot is Verizon and if that isn't working, my AT&T cellular modem usually works.

Both are unlimited plans.

I also use a WeBoost signal booster that actually works.

We used 18 GB in November.
T-Mobile hotspot with 55+ Unlimited plan.
Never noticed any throttling of speed.

Over a month at home, using Verizon 4glte home, streaming YouTube TVs daily, we use 325 gb’s per month. I’ve streamed movies in my, about a gab per hour. Music, 1 go over 3 hours. That’s the extent of my knowledge
