Carrying a Motorcycle

Hi, All. Got some good info/advice on this forum about hitch weight, etc. when carrying a motorcyle or scooter in a cargo rack on the rear hitch of my Four Winds 26B. Also spoke to Thor support about it.

Now that I'm narrowing my options, I'd like to get some real-world reactions and examples... Is anyone here carrying a motorcycle (or other heavy item) in a rack on the rear hitch of a 26B (or equivalent)? I'd like to know what your experience has been, what weight you're carrying, what brand/type of carrier, etc.

I really don't want to over-stress the rear hitch. It's rated for 8,000 lbs. towing, but more like 800 lbs. actual hitch weight. And that goes WAY down depending on rotational forces, distance from the receiver, etc.

So, if anyone is carrying a substantial weight on their Thor Class C hitch, please let me know!

As always, TIA.

There's a Company offering a setup that bolts to the frame; no over-stressing the hitch!
But I just haven't been able to get my eyeballs on them yet...
I'll keep digging for you!

EDIT: I found this one....

Thanks, sgtapd110! Yours is a stock hitch, right? Is it rated at 8000 lbs., like mine?

ALSO: nice scooter!

Bike on Hitch

Thanks, Bob! Looks like a cool setup. If I end up getting something too big for a regular hitch mount, and requiring a lift, I'll have to check that out.

Thanks again!

Rod

Just trying to help out (or confuse things!), with more options!

I've looked at all options with the desire to carry different things on different trips. I'm just gonna haul a small single axle utility trailer. I'll buy a small car (less than 3000#) and carry ladder and other small stuff on trailer as well. I can even use it for my golf cart. No braking required and easy to drop off at a CG. The "toad" systems seem too much drama for me. I must have the ability to back up some distance if I wish. I don't trust extending the hitch with the vertical bouncing issues.

Thanks! Yeah, I've thought about that as an option, too! Might end up going that route. Makes sense in a lot of cases. Thanks!

I considered getting a rack for my motorcycle that goes in the hitch. But decided against it because I thought it was too high to safely roll my bike on and off. I went with a single axle utility trailer ($900 at Lowes) and it really woks good. Once unloaded I can move it around by hand.
