Haven’t looked at this in a while. I’ve done a lot of mountain passes since these posts and am taking on my most frequented one again tomorrow. I wasn’t completely happy with it coming over a few weeks ago without the Cherokee attached. This time it will be with the Cherokee. I will put the brake buddy in the Cherokee but it doesn’t do much on downhills.

This pass has serious switchbacks requiring 20mph or less. So I will be using 2 several times. The manual text above suggests tow haul works in 2 but I don’t think so. The light goes out.

Anyhow, the secret is take my time. Fortunately this road is relatively lightly travelled so I won’t tick off too many.

I might try pressing the accelerator as suggested but I can’t do much of that on this pass. It is two lanes with minimum shoulder and no brake failure ramps.

Try this before going for 2nd gear.

Tow/haul on before starting down.
Before your ready to use the brakes firmly tap the brake pedal quickly two times. The transmission should shift down, if it doesn't, tap the brakes a little harder and quicker.

It would be good if you know a place along your route where you can practice your tow/haul/brake procedure, good luck let the motor home do the work.
