Motorhome Storage

This may be a little off the subject, but I was wonder when you store your MH for several weeks or longer, do you leave the vehicle on the tires or do to put the leverers down, or do womething different all together.

Thanks

Mine doesn't have levelers so it just sits on its tires year round. I try to exercise it once a month or so if not otherwise using it. Doesn't seem to cause a problem

Nothing MH related is 'off topic'.. ask away...

We had a thread about this a little while ago... Answers seem to depend on where you are and type of storage (outdoor/indoor)...

Outdoor storage in the north - with ice/salt exposure - I was always told and followed 'slides in, jacks up'... and what I did when in Michigan.

In south, or with indoor storage - either likely works well.

Those using their rigs full time are obviously slides out, jacks down... as we did for multi month winter 'snowbird' trips.

I still store mine parked on the tires - but not intending it to be in storage for months anymore - more short trips year round is the intention.

Nothing to lift it so it stays tires on the ground year round.

We are just entering our second year with a MH and closing in on our third year as Florida residents, so I am still in the learning curve and would be interested in some of the answers and ideas other southern RVers may respond with.

Currently our Challenger sits in a gravel storage lot from about August to May. During that time we will take it out two or three times for shorter trips around Florida but nothing longer than a week or two. I keep it on the level up jacks 90% of the time. Of course the storage lot is perfectly level, if it wasn't I probably would not keep my jacks down.

Like GMC said, depends what region you plan on storing in. Jacks down keeps the coach stable and I would certainly keep slides in. After putting the jacks down give them a liberal spray of silicone for protection, this is per a seminar I attended on jacks.

RV storage

I live year round in S/W Florida. We use our MH quite often, at least once a month during the winter months going to dog shows and weekend trips, however during the hot summer months we make one or two long trips up North to visit family and friends. It may sit for several months between trips. I have a covered gravel RV pad that is pretty level. I keep my jacks up and slides in while stored, however I do exercise everything once a month. Run the generator under load for about a half hour, run the slides out and lube them. Move the MH by driving it around the block etc. I keep the Max Air roof vents open and one window cracked for air circulation. I use screens over all furnace, water heater and fridge vents to keep mud daubers out and put Bounce fabric softener sheets in all compartments and drawers.
These procedures have worked well for me on both of my RV's while living in Florida.

Fabric softner sheets in the compartments is an old RVer trick that has been used for years to keep critters out of your MH compartments etc. Check it out on any of the RV forums. Whatever is in the fabric sheets acts as a repellent and also keeps the compartments and drawers smelling fresh. I don't know how well they work, but I haven't had any critters in any of my MH's for the several years that I've been using them?

Mine sits on the tires, out in the weather year long, whether it on my property or in a campground. During the winter it is usually under a foot or more of packed snow.

Startrekfan,

Approximately what is the cost for the shelter you have? Your beast looks long, and mine is only 26 ft.

Concrete is very hard on tires. I put wood under each tire. Have also used the plastic leveling blocks for under tires.

Are you directing the question about the RV shelter to me? The picture above is my Metal RV port. I bought it from Carport1. It is 16' wide by 36' long and 14.5' high at the peak. It allows me to open the slides and the compartment doors on both sides with plenty of clearance. My ACE is 31' long so there is about 21/2' overhang front and back. It is designed to meet Florida hurricane standards of 150 mph winds.
The cost of the RV port delivered and installed was $3,800.00

Yes, directing question to you. I'm new to this forum site, and get a little confused who is writing what. LOL.

Thanks for the information. Dang!, that shelter is nice, I had no idea the cost was that hefty.

Same thing. Wood under tires. I up the pressure a bit. Also cover them to protect against UV rays.

We leave ours on the tires. But never longer than 6 weeks.

That's a GREAT-looking storage spot!
Do you have a link to a site for Carport1?
Are they only doing installations in Florida?

Back to the subject of storage methods, mine is stored inside, on a level pad, so normally its parked with slides in, jacks up, tires on the ground, plugged into shore power. I can leave slides out, if I'm doing any work on it, and again since its in a closed garage, I don't worry much about it either way.

Bob,
Did a google search and found this;
https://www.carport1.com/?gclid=Cj0K...kaAv7FEALw_wcB

Steven's RV port is shown on the site and they have links for outlets in several states.
