Shore Power/Converter Sound

When you are plugged in to shore power and your house switch is on (switch near to door) does the converter fan run all the time? I think its a fan it has a slight continues hum. May be a dumb question but it has been bothering me and I know you guys and gals know.

I had some humming. It turned out it was coming from my roof vent (head slap).

What you are hearing is probably the converter fan and it will run. With some luck yours is not in the storage compartment under the bed like my current and prior coach. You do get used to it after awhile, at least I did

Angry

Dave,

Glad to hear I may get used to it in time. The first few nights it drove me crazy until I finally found the "humming" source. Putting it under the owners bed was a real brain fart on Thor's part.

It'[s not just Thor. My prior coach was a Forest River and it is in the same place. For future reference the converters are generally installed in the same general location as the breaker panel and in some cases (like the WFCO 8945PEC) it is actually part of the breaker panel/power distribution center.

At least Thor installed it in a storage compartment rather than in the under bed area.

My converter fan runs for awhile after plugging into shore power and then turns off. Just a WAG, but I assume it is thermostatically controlled and only runs when needed.

Ok I feel better, ours is under the dining table seats. Its not a big deal I just wanted to make sure that is what it is supposed to do. It must cycle because I didn't notice it until one night we where out west and I took the fuse panel off and there it was. Thanks for all your replies.
