Have a 2017 25.3 with 13K miles. Small rock hit the bottom of the windshield and within an hour I had 2 cracks working their way up the windshield. Replacing this week. Hopefully it doesn’t take weeks to get the glass in stock!

I have a 2016 axis with the giant windshield all the way to the top. When I bout it had a crack in the lower passenger corner. Finally shelled out 7 grand for new one, installed by a company. 800 miles into my trip, crack began in almost the same spot, about 8 inches. No rock chip, started on edge. Frustrating as hell.

What are my o-turns here?

Dan

If they ALL cracked, there would have been a huge cry for a recall.

I have not seen anyone on this forum with a 2016 (aside from those earliest 2016s) or later that had a cracked windshield from stress. Rocks can damage any windshield, but that huge windshield is a big target. I always leave plenty of room behind dump trucks and flatbeds to reduce the risk.

On the plus side, the view from that big expanse of glass is sometimes stunning.

What was your warranty for the install? Last few times I had windshields replaced on a car they came with a lifetime warranty against leaks and stress cracking.

OTOH I believe there was a TSB or recall on those early AXIS/VEGAS windshields due to constant cracking.

Sorry to hear this problem and frustration. If you get Ed Felker's user manual that he put together and others including yours truly gave input to you will see if you haven't already that the Axis is indeed a unique rig. Unfortunately, it is what is considered "entry level" and many improvements are usually needed. We had a 2016 with the shorter windshield and E450 chassis. Never had a windshield issue but I would put together a long list of what I had to do to make it more livable and improve the drive. Rather than give my opinion on your particular windshield which would not be positive I offer this suggestion. I had excellent information and service when I lived in Southern California at Redlands Truck and RV. I would suggest that you call them and explain the issue. They will probably give you to their tech that has handled the windshield problems. I hesitate to say that this will not be a cheap or easy fix and I would forget getting anything out of Thor since your rig is approaching 10 years old.

I don’t believe there was a recall but I do remember quite a few folks had windshield stress cracks on the earlier design Axis/Vegas and that might have prompted the front cap redesign taking a lot of the curve out of the glass.

Use the forum search feature and if there was a recall someone would have posted the info.
