(Yet another) tire inflation thread!

Opinions please. Here's the story:

I have never weighed my rig... never felt the need to as I feel I don't go crazy loading it down. Always start out with a full tank of gas, full tank of water and empty waste tanks. So... assuming I'm loaded and under the GCCC, following the information gleaned from the labels and tires in the below pics, what tire inflation would YOU go with?

I don't know what you mean b6 "GCCC".

If you are under GVWR then 75 front and 65 rear is what I would run.

Actually I just meant CCC - cargo carrying capacity.

Your suggestion is exactly what I started with back in May... the temp was something over 80° when I aired up.

This morning I went out early and checked the TPMS indicated pressures. The temp was around 56°.

I’d go weigh the rig and then check the tire manufacturers recommended pressure and follow that. If you are well under GVWR you will find that you can lower your pressures and get a better ride.

If you are not going to bother weighing the rig, why worry about tire pressure? Just put the chuck on the valve stem, count to 3 and call it good to go.

From what I see the tires max pressure is 80psi and your tire label says 75psi and if your not overloading I would go with the label, either way it’s only 5psi

Agree with weighing the rig. It is super easy and any CAT scale will give you a good idea, not perfect but easy and convenient. Get the app, drive on and you'll have the results in no time and be on your way for $12.50. You don't even have to get out of your seat... I did ours once when unloaded and once when fully loaded for a comparison and now have a high and low baseline. Now I even know I carry about 340lbs of gear in the toad... Get er' weighed.

It's a class C rig. Weighing it probably won't allow you to reduce tire pressures from the label; but, it may confirm you are overweight' at least on the rear axle.

Which is pretty worth knowing - especially as your tires age.

Great. We're taking a week trip (towing the toad too) late in October and the route takes us past a CAT scale. Good time to 'git er done'.

Question... I don't get why the rears spec 10# less than the fronts?? The rear is heavier... wouldn't more air be better, assuming close to cargo capacity? On the way to get weighed, maybe be over inflated (but within spec) than under? Is it because of the duallies?

Because you have twice as many tires carrying the load.

Sticker pressures are not always best!

On my 2020 F53 chassis the sticker pressures made handling terrible. Lots of lane wander. I tried every other mod first and spent a lot of money and time doing them. Still not satisfied, I finally took the forum's advice and weighed, checked tire manufacturer chart and adjusted pressure accordingly. Night and day difference in handling. My rig finally drives the way it should now! The easiest and cheapest modification was the most effective. Just sayin'!

I put 75# in the fronts an 65# in the rear duallies. A trip in October takes us past a Cat scale... where I'll get an accurate weight (fully loaded and with toad in tow). That should give me everything I need to know.

Sounds like your coach is very similar to ours, same axle weight ratings and same nutty PSI recommendations from Ford.

See this thread for our actual weights and discussion about inflation pressure: https://www.thorforums.com/forums/f1...sis-32292.html

Not that ours will match yours, we travel really light...

Most RVs are max out on weight by the time you got the gas tank, LP tank and fresh water tank full plus all the food and personal stuff, I am not concerned with the ride, the higher tire pressure will allow the tires to run cooler, I run 80 psi on my tires, so many people spoiled by driving around in their Lincoln or Caddy and want the same ride with their RV, its a heavy van or truck chassis and its gonna ride like one, getting it weighed is a must, when a tire over heats and the tread peals off it usually takes out the side of the motorhome, I saw one that ripped the exhaust system off and did some major damage to the right rear, a blow out on the front can be deadly, if you are over the max of the tire rating on weight then you need to look at a different tire or start unloading some of you excess cargo

Overinflating can lead to uneven wear and compromised traction. Running max PSI seems like a bad idea IMO, unless you know for a fact that the tire requires that pressure to support the actual coach weight.

I dont know why it took so long to buy one of these. Filling tires, checking with a stick gauge... Now, just point and shoot...

Fill 1/2 lb over desired pressure, for me 82.5 psi, press the little button to release air to the correct pressure, put on the TPMS sensor.

The neighbors, saying,,, there he goes again... checking and fillin those tires again..

I found the same results with the Four winds 22e, The smaller class c E350 motorhomes with no slides are lighter than you think. I was fully loaded and weighed in just over 11,000 pounds. If I emptied all my gear and tanks I could easily get close to 9,500 pounds.

Though the chateau 24f that chateau nomad has also has a slide. Not sure how much that adds

These tire inflation threads are never-ending!!!!
Over inflation is bad, under inflation is bad, weigh your rv or not, everyone has a different opinion.
My suggestion would be find a pressure that handles well, tires wear well, mileage does'nt suck worse & you're happy with then use that pressure, be it the rv recommended pressures, the sidewall pressures or somewhere between. As long as the tires aren't running near flat 5-10 lbs one way or the other won't make a bit of difference. As already stated it's a truck chassis, it never was designed to nor never will ride like your car. No tire inflation PhD required!
But then next week someone will ask again about tire pressures & it'll start all over again.
