Kodiak 181E Holding Tank Drains

Howdy, not new to trailers, RV's, however, I have an issue, to me anyway, with the waste water draining on a 2011 Kodiak, Dutchmen 181E Bears Den trailer.
All of the trailers I have owned and currently own, with the exception of this one, have a way to drain just the grey water. This trailer however, has a drain valve in the grey water pipe but it T's into the black water pipe before the valve so that there is no way to just drain the grey waste, the black must be drained. Has anyone ever seen this? Why would this be plumbed like this? Are RV rules different in Canada so is this how it is done there?
