New Thor ACE

Hi,

I am new to this so please bear with me.

2016 - ACE 30.1

Radio reception - poor - any thoughts why?

Side view camera - they showed me in walk through but now can't figure out how to turn them on. Turn signals don't activate.

Dash Entertainment and Radio in bedroom - should they have remotes? Radio in bedroom also has outside speakers.

On Line Owners Manual - any idea where I can find one?

Thanks in advance
Rob

There isn't an owners manual of the detail that you are looking for or want anywhere...

Your poor radio reception may be due to a bad antenna, the antenna wire not being connected somewhere, or the plug simply not being plugged into the back of the radio. I would start by pulling the radio (our coach came with the two wire hoops required to do this--they were in the black Thor bag).

If your dash radio is the Jensen JRV-212 it won't have an included remote (I believe you can buy one if you really want one). In addition if it is the 212 there is a camera menu which you can use to check if the camera's have been disabled (and you can use to manually select them). It is also possible that the wiring for the camera's hasn't been connected either (probably not connected at the same time your antenna was not connected LOL).

Side view camera must have the ignition and turn signal on. The thor advertising bit in the Motor Home Specialists videos on line do not mention this although they do highly spout off about the cameras being a "security feature".

Not sure about your remotes or reception.

Do you have the Axxerra radio in the dash or something else?

The online owners manual can be located at:

Thanks Dave
1st - Thank you for your service!!!!

The camera works when parked so maybe that is it? I will have to play a little as I get use to it.

It is the Axxerra radio but I think the Jensen in the beadroom doesn't have good reception either so ......

Thanks to all who responded!

There are manuals in the Thor bag for the main in dash radio and the rear Jensen. Correct, neither comes with a remote and yes you have to go inside to the bedroom to change channels/ lower volume, etc. Its a pain I wish they used the front system to power the outdoor speakers. The upside is the Jensen in teh rear is bluetooth capable. You can play your tunes from outside the coach and even lower or raise the volume a bit. Also the Jensen has dimming capabilities. You'll find out on that first campout how bright the display is when you are trying to sleep. Enjoy your new coach!!

If you have the Axxerra radio in the dash, you should have received a remote for it. We received one with our Challenger. The Jensen radio does not have a remote which seems kind of odd since it is the radio that connects to the outside speakers. When streaming audio from my iPhone using Bluetooth I am able to control volume to a degree with the iPhone.

Our 2016 Hurricane 27K came with a remote for the Jensen radio in the bedroom, and was supposed to have one for the Axxera in the cab area. It was not included so our dealer ordered one for us. It took 2 months to get it.

Now we need to double check the remote for the bedroom radio as DH was trying to find way to turn it off completely (blue display light is totally too bright for sleeping!) but he says the remote will not work. Perhaps it isn't for the radio we have!

I get more and more confused at times, but love what we learn from the forum!

Not sure which model Jensen you have in the bedroom but the specs for my AWM914 specifically states it is not remote compatible.

You are correct. We had a remote in the bedroom, placed near the radio and I assumed it was for the radio. It is not. It is for the TV. I was mistaken.

We will slowly begin to find what goes with what, and what does what. It's a bit overwhelming.

Now if we could only figure out how to turn the light completely off on the bedroom radio...it's such a distraction and is too bright for a sleeping area!

The light on that radio cannot be turned off but it can be dimmed.

I am considering getting a piece of privacy film used for cell phones and then cut it to the size of the radio screen to see if I can further dim that light. Another consideration is to cut, form and attach a small piece of plastic to direct the light towards the floor to serve as a "don't step on the dog safety light".

I will say however that one night I used a towel to cover the radio and I found that if I was concerned about night time light I would go crazy. Between the skylight in the shower, the LEDs on other components such as televisions, microwave etc... and natural moonlight entering around the sides of blackout shades a person can almost read a book.

Welcome to the forum rcsauce, you will find lots of info, help and ideas here. We did not get a remote for the in dash Axxera unit. The dealer has ordered one, but evidently we have a few more weeks to wait! I was under the impression that the Axxera head unit provided the video to the tvs (hence the remote) but we found out that is not the case anymore. You have to provide your own dvd for the tvs (cabin and outside). We picked up a small Sony dvd from best buy with all the apps we use and it works well. I did have to remove my exterior tv to connect the hdmi cable though.. I'm considering installing a power switch for the bedroom radio, that sucker is BRIGHT at night! We are getting things together, just like any hobby, buying the coach is just the entry fee! I did the cheap handling fix last weekend and doing an alignment today.. next up is weighing the ACE. Sorry for the ramble...
Good luck and have fun!

The manual for our radio on the bedroom gives the following instructions:

Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) Back Light
• Dimmer: Adjust the brightness of the LCD from “LIGHT 9”
(brightest) to “LIGHT 0” (off).

I have not had opportunity to test this yet. Will try to swing by storage tonight and check.

My wife asked that I level the coach and extend the slides so she can take inventory this morning. Since I need to pair our new iPhones to the radios anyway I'll check the dimmer and report back. Should be done within an hour or two.

The procedure listed above does work and will turn the blue backlight off when it is set to zero.

Thanks Dave for posting the instructions I did not have my manuals handy when I posted. When turned down to "0" the backlight (Blue) is completely off but the LCD can still be seen if you shine a flashlight on it. I keep a small AA LED flashlight in the pocket near the radio to check on the dogs, go to the bathroom etc. I like pure darkness when sleeping!

I got a total of 3 remotes with my ACE. 1 for the Ax... Radio, and one for each TV. Now looking at maybe a 3rd tv remote.

I read the manual and still had some problems figuring out how to get to the correct menu item. Did finally get there. Set it on one simply because I like a little light when heading to lav at night.
