12V water pump

I noticed today that every 20 seconds my water pump would run for a second or two. I thought it must be because I have a faucet that is leaking or the toilet. Not the case. I did see that water was coming out my city hook up. Anyone know why and what I can do to fix it. Itís never happened before. Thanks

Are you talking about where you connect the hose to your RV is leaking? If so, that is your problem. There is an integrated check valve there which is supposed to prevent water from back-flowing out that connection when the pump is run. It probably needs to be replaced.

Yes...I think. I am not hooked up to city water so no hose. But thatís where the water is coming from.

Not sure I would know how to replace the check valve. Do you know how? Thanks

Should be 3 screws on the outside and a screw-on connector on the inside. Make sue you seal it with butyl tape when you install the new one.

I had no clue how many different types they made. I finally found one that looks just like the picture you sent.... well itís black not white but the one I have is black. Should get it in a few days.

Why do I need the tape you suggested I use? Where does it go? I get the plumbers tape.

Could be you just have a small piece of junk keeping the valve from seating.

Butyl tape is used behind the flat part where it is screwed to the wall to prevent rain from entering the hole. Your local hardware or HomeDepot may have some:

Pop the screen out of the end of the city water hook up and using a pocket screwdriver push in the center of the valve. This may clear a piece of debris and allow the plunger to seat curing the leak.

By your statement it may be the city connection has a bad check valve or debris in it not allowing it to seal causing a loss of pressure telling the pump to run. Also the diaphragm in the water pump could have debris or is faulty not allowing the system to hold pressure as well. If you eliminate these scenarios and the pump still comes on intermittently I strongly suggest that you check for leaks along as much of the water system lines as you can possibly see or get to, many times leaks or seeps donít show up until your floor has rotted.

Pump Check Valve

Had the same problem on the last trip. The pump would continue to start and stop (every 30 to 40 seconds or so). Got home and pulled the pump and could not see any problems with diaphragms. I pulled the check valve and found a bunch of grit (looked like fine sand) under the rubber check valve flapper. Thoroughly cleaned and blew out, reinstalled and eliminated the problem. Lessons learned - flush your hose thoroughly before connecting to your rig and use a filter on your hose.

Go outside and check the outside shower. Ensure all the valves are shut tight.

Also, if you are using city water, kill the pump. Not needed.

That was the problem!! Now I did learn even more than ďpush in the center of the valveĒ ...... that is, donít be looking into the hook up when you push it unless you want a shower. Would have made a great video!! Thanks for your help.

Just had to do that. But your comment got me thinking and not to hijack this thread, as I think it was successfully solved, but which would you rather have... A face full of RV black water or a confirmed COVID-19 sneeze?

Can I select neither?
