2018 model specifications avaiability

I see one dealer is showin 2018 models 'on order' with pricing. Does anyone know when specifications and changes compared with 2017 models will be released? I have done an initial search but am not finding anything.

Model change over is usually the first week of April for Thor Motorcoach. Each division of Thor Ind (there are 7) has its own change over date. That April changeover may slip because of the Easter break. Thor Motor coach holds the yearly changes close so the dealer can continue to sell the 2017 models as new rather than have the new buyer waiting for the new improved model. New floor plans are usually introduced in January as production slows down.

2018 challenger has eliminated all 2 options. They are standard now. Few other changes. Mine is due may.

I don't know what model your looking for but the Windsport 31S changes for 2018 are glass cook top, pre-wired for solar, power seat standard, thicker solid surface counter tops, and raised bathroom vanity. Also models with the outdoor kitchen no longer come with a gas grille.

I'm also being told the cooktop is going to be electric.

Is that an inductive cooktop or resistive?

The glass cooktop is electric, makes me glad I bought a 2017 because I prefer gas and like having a real oven. We had a convection microwave in our Tuscany and I didn't particularly care for it. The other changes Thor is making I like!

I have no intentions of going solar but I'm thinking having the unit prewired would be great for some.

We have the Aussie grill, I've used it several times and it isn't to bad, not great, but not to bad. Wonder if Thor will eventually replace the Aussie with another brand?

From what I heard you no longer get the grill on the new units.

Kev, that's correct, no more grill unless they replace it with another brand. Don't know if Aussie went out of business or Thor just quit buying them. The few times I've used our grill it worked fine, AFTER you purge the air out of the hose. Cleans up easy since it's stainless. Took a while to assemble but not bad. I'll keep using my grill till it quits and then look for something else.

I was looking at Thor's website for the Vegas/Axis. On the various models only the 24.1 is listed as using the E-350, the others show the E-450. Is this a typo or is this now the standard?

Also listed the "instant tankless" water heater system.

We aren't sure--there is a bunch of discussion about that in another thread...of course I can't find that thread.

It is my understanding that in mid 2016 they started using E450 frame. Mine is a late 2016 on the E450 platform. It can be determined by your vin.

It will be interesting to see since mine is a late 2017. I will find out if it comes in this week as promised. If it doesn't have a grill I will ask for compensation since it is on my brochure and on their web site. That may be why the power seat is standard on the 2018 models and it was an option on mine.

Correct, and Thor had updated the website to indicate that all Axis/Vegas units were using the 450 frame. Recently they updated the website again to indicate that the 24.1 models are back to using the 350 frame--even though they didn't update the GVWR and GCWR on the page.

That is strange wonder why they would would go back unless its a cost issue.

I was told by Thor employee (not a dealer) that they had received a number of E-350 stripped chassis and would use them up on 24.1 because they are the lightest of the Axis/Vegas floorplans. While he didn't specifically state it, he led me to believe that once the E-350s are used up, they would likely go back to E-450s.

The chassis selection process seems a little too arbitrary to me, as if guided more by marketing than engineering -- which should be expected.
