Steering Wheel cover on F53

For some time i have been annoyed by a sticky feeling steering wheel after an hour or so of driving. Finally found a link to a company (wheelskins.com) that will make a custom leather sew on cover for my steering wheel. They offered free samples of colors which i got. Took a little over 2 hours to sew on and was a simple easy process. Feels great and is a cool addition.

Looks great. I’ve put their covers on several of my cars over the years. Very high quality items. Did you get a blister from pulling the thread tight for two hours?! Voice of experience!

A great looking fix for your problem my friend. Another example of why your coach always looks like it just came out of a detail shop (better than new).

No blisters, I learned in the first 5 minutes to put a glove on my right hand that pulled the thread tight.

I've been thinking of installing that steering wheel cover as well. My one concern is that the edge/seam at the 10 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions might get irritating where I like to rest my thumbs.

I don't notice the part where the black and tan are sew to make one at the 1o & 3 position. You could always get a single color and the seam would be at 6.

Before i found wheelskins i saw a few youtube videos on steering wheel covering. One guy made his own out of leather and where the seam was he put a relief notch around the wheel. That would eliminate the extra leather sewn together. For me i'm not about to alter the original wheel for something hardly noticeable. And i've been called anal a few times.

I was not concerned about the seam on the cover itself, but where the edge of the cover is on the steering wheel spoke. I installed a steering wheel cover in my CR-V that extends up the steering wheels spokes (see the photo). It's really nice, but they don't make one like this for the Ford Econoline.

I will probably install the Wheelskins cover anyway. Yours looks great and I'm sure it feels a lot better than the stock plastic. I assume your colors are sand and black, right?

Looks Great ! What's the Little Black Box on your dash, and what is this wash/wax you speak of.

Yes the colors i chose were black & sand.

Soon after I started the install and at first i thought it was a tad short as pulling the thread with much force the two ends weren't meeting. I did about 5 or so holes and took them out and re did them and they now came together. The black leather is a bit more stout and harder to pull together. The Sand leather was more compliant and didnt need as much tightness to come together. I did put the joint for the stitches slightly off center to the back of the wheel so the sewing and where the two ends met weren't as obvious. A dozen or so times i had to let the thread un twist as it would form knots while i was trying to pull the thread thru.

The measurements i gave them were 17 1/2 dia. X 3 1/2 cir. Take your circumference measurement from the high point of the finger relief. On the irv2 forum others have used
3 3/4. Mine came together just fine with a bit of careful pulling. I wore a cheap harbor freight glove on my right hand as the thread will cut into you when pulling the thread.

The little black box is a Scangauge 2. it connects to your OBD2 diagnostic port to get engine information. I have mine set to display RPM, coolant temp, speed and avg mpg. There are many sub screens that can be scrolled thru like todays trip info, yesterdays trip, miles to empty, fuel to empty and many many more.

The best price i found was by buying online at advance auto as they always have a 20% off code and sometimes 25% on their web page. My local store didn't have it in stock so you can "check near by stores". After purchase at a near by store that had it in stock and i called to verify i purchased online then went to their store and picked it up.

Click HERE for the scangauge page.

The wash/wax is a waterless wash wax all kit.
2 years ago when we got our new to us coach with full body paint i wasn't about to do the hours n hours of wax on wax off. There were many positive posts on irv2 about this so i bought it. I couldn't be more pleased with the ease of application and the results. Takes me a little over an hour to do my 37' coach and the roof.

Click HERE for the wash wax all page.

THIS is the kit i have.

A picture of my display from a recent trip.

In the E450, a Scan Gauge fits nicely in the empty dash cubby. I haven't personally put one in mine yet, but it's on my list.
