First night with tennis dipping below freezing, any advice

Ok, have a trip planned with my sister and brother in law for this weekend.

ACE 30.3

Cold front moving in, currently forecast for a low of 32 Friday and 29 Saturday. High in low 50's both days.

Is that disconnect the water cold? How about grey water hose?

Speaking of grey, if it's left connected, do I need to seal up the hole around sewer hose to keep heat in the wet bay?

This cold stretch was unexpected, so I didn't refill propane. I'm sitting at 2/3. I have no idea how much propane I might burn from Friday evening until we leave Sunday late morning (this is only my third trip period, and first this cold) Does that sound like enough propane for two days in those temps or do I need to try and get it tipped off.

I'm assuming these temps would not require me putting antifreeze in the traps, or should I?

It's going to warm back up the following week and I will probably blow or the lines then, until or next trip.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm not positive, but I would think if you keep the inside reasonably warm (62-68) you shouldn't have too much to worry about. The lines are in the walls of the RV, so shielded from direct exposure. However, you may want to look to your Fresh water line and either disconnect and use the tank, or plan on waiting for the thaw to happen the next morning. Pretty sure the tank wont have an issue, too much water to freeze and pump should be inside the RV (at least mine is).

As for the propane, my 29M doesn't use that much for heating, but it depends on how warm you want the living space to stay. Jackets/Sweaters are easy to put on, then sleeping cool is pretty common. Also, depending on how many people are in the RV, the inside temp will reflect their heat gain also.

I would put 1/3 - 2/3 water in the FW tank and plan on using it overnight, disconnect and drain the FW hose (so you can use it the next day) and enjoy the cold evenings.

Just my 2 cents. Look for more info from the more experienced guys.

Yes, Seal the hole around the Grey Water hose, if possible.

Don't think you should really need the antifreeze in the traps, but I have been wrong before.

You will have no problems with those temperatures. Sounds as if you have Full Hookups if you are asking about insulating for the sewer. Get your self a little portable electric ceramic heater, which will assist with the heating inside and saves on your propane. Disconnect your water hose for the overnight and run on your water from the fresh water tank. I wouldn't worry about your grey and black tanks. In the high desert of Arizona in the winter, I have awoken to snow with no problems. Cactus look kind of strange with snow on them! Even other times the fresh water hose has frozen(even in Tennessee in December). Once the sun comes out they thaw out. Enjoy yourself, with extra comforter/blankets its a real enjoyable sleep.

Thanks guys for advice on "tennis" below freezing. I hate auto type on a mobile.

Ok, that pretty much is in line with what I was thinking.

How do you insulate around the grey hose, just anything to stop the air, or actually stuffing some pink stuff or other insulation down there?

My ACE has furnace that will enter the compartment, but from the other side of the coach (the grey and black tanks are passthrough on that compartment, so the furnace dumps into passenger side compartment and then it's open to driver side where the dump station is.

BE SURE you have your GAS tank topped off in case you want to run your GENERATOR ...

Do you have tank heaters. Turn them on and forget about it. The low temp won't be low for long. And just a rag around the pipe is all you need, if that. Warm yourself with a nice fire and hot toddy. Thats great weather for a camping trip. Have fun.

Secondly, dont hook up anything but electric and cable. You should easily be able to use only your FULL fresh water tank and your EMPTY black and grey tanks for a couple days and empty before you leave the camp ground.

We have been out many times and temps dipped into the mid and high 20's during the night, but warmed to high 50's low 60's daytime. We never had any problems, but use an electric heater and we have two AC heat pumps that we use, at least until the temps get below the mid 30's. You will go through a lot of LP using the furnace in cold temps.

We used a ceramic furnace inside today to keep coach warm, but will switch back to the furnace tonight, since it's the only heat for the three compartments underneath with tanks and/or pex tubing.

I think long term I have to hook up alternate heat sources (heat lamps or other electric heat) for the storage compartments with tanks and plumbing, so I don't have to run the furnace. One ceramic heater is doing a better job of even heat throughout the coach vs. the blast of hot furnace air, that gets too hot, then too cold, then too hot... rinse and repeat.

If the temps are not dropping down below 30 we use the electric fireplace & ceramic heaters. But if below we use the furnace, it drops hot air into the water compartments. Ran a test last night, temp dropped to 24 by morning. Set the Tstat at 50 and the water compartments we at 38 & 39. No connections.

Hot air rises: it has to be forced down into the belly of the rig...

I've seen some of the stuff that the "backyard experts" have cooked up...
(Hot air furnaces up in the attic! )

Heating Pad or Trouble light

Our 30.2 has the water pump in the basement. To keep the water pump ice free, we hang an incandescent trouble light in the water pump compartment or in colder weather cover it with a heating pad. Use the grey & back tank heaters that come standard. Unplug the water hose from both ends at night, and consider a heated water hose if this might be a more frequent occurance. Worked for us!

My 30.3 doesn't have tank heaters, but instead furnace air that blows into the cargo areas with plumbing.

Wish they did that on my 30.2. With heaters in the basement and no plumbing in the slides, you have less to worry about in those temps.
