50amp to 30amp

I have 50amp coach if only 30amp is available other than an adapter plug, will I need to do anything different, like manually turn air conditioners off on so both don't try to run or will system see 30amp and take care of itself . 2019 Thor Challenger

If the 30 amp source experiences excess draw it will probably kick off a breaker and go dead (thank goodness).

Your 50 amp unit can handle a 50 amp draw, but doesn't know that the power outlet cannot.

So, turn off whatever would result in an excessive aggregate current draw.

If your coach has a multiplex system like a Firefly, then there is a good chance that it'll manage total power draw by a process called load shedding.

Our Firefly supposedly has it, although I haven't explicitly tested it. It can tell when we're plugged into something other than 50A, and I can then set it for 15A, 20A, or 30A as appropriate.

Most load shedding systems monitor the coach's inputs to the power center for split phase on the L1 and L2 legs. If there is only phase; then it assumes it is on a 30 amp circuit, but there are manual options for a 15 and 20 amp circuits. It is built into the power center and can be controlled remotely in most systems.

I tried an experiment with our rig, 50 amp, firefly and 2 a/c units. I was only hooked up to 30 amp and had 1 a/c running and nothing else. Looked at the usage meter and it was good on voltage so I decided to see if it would run both a/c's. turned on the other a/c on the tablet, the system shut off the one that was running and turned on the the other a/c unit. Pretty smart system.
