Night Shade Suddenly lowered while driving

Driving home in the new 2023 Venetian on the interstate, the night shade rapidly unrolled and completely blocked my view....thankfully nobody was in the road w/ me and I was able to get stopped safely....

Has anyone had this happen? The motor runs but doenst turn the shade as if a gear broke allowing it to free-wheel.

Im surprised if this is common that there's not a safety strap of sorts.

First I’ve read of that happening.

I recall one other thread with a similar problem. Not sure what their cause or fix was.

That is pretty darn scary.

The Tuscany has an interlock that won't allow you to lower it if the coach is running.

So, several things at play here.

Sounds like a mechanical failure. I had ours fall onto the dash board. We were lucky that we were just pulling out of a fuel station. I fixed it. The factory installed it with the shortest screws at an angel that barely gripped the end of the shade. I reinstalled with longer screws. Yours maybe a broken gear?

WOW, not good. They have a safety switch that allows them to drop about 1/4 way down for sunscreen. But that is a slow up/down process. If it dropped suddenly, like MLP said, it has to be a mechanical failure. Since the shade unrolled, the safety switch didn't work. Are you able to roll it back up or does it just stay there?

There was a recall on some of those models a few years ago, but did not include any of the Thor diesel lines. The motors have a plastic "gear" that slides into the aluminum tube. Some of the gears were slightly too small or the tubes slightly too large. The fix under the recall was to insert a short screw through the tube into the gear. It is a pretty easy fix. I had the same issue and called the company and they explained it to me and I did mine a couple of years ago and have had no issues since. I did have to reset the limits afterwards but that is also pretty easy and the instructions are available on the web- pretty sure I have seen them here.

Definitely a mechanical. The motor still turns when you push the button, but it just freewheels, so my temporary fix is to roll it up manually and zip tie it until I can get it replaced. 1000 miles, just another one of those things to repair on the next trip to the dealership....

It has the same mechanical stop to lower down as a sun visor, but this was some gearing internally that allowed it to freewheel down.
