We would rent but that money can easily be put towards a down payment. That video definitely gave some good insight...basically saying don't buy new. However, from what I gathered THOR is an excellent brand and the E350 engine is very reliable.

Radnee - I think you understood most of it but... Thor's warranty support has been great for our Challenger but unless the warranty is transferable (don't believe it is) you won't have that warranty support. I believe the lawyer (same category for me as RV salesman) was saying to be the most informed buyer you can be because you will probably have limited recourse. Extended warranties can help but they are expensive and can be difficult to process for claims.
PS: The principle reason to rent is to make sure you have the features you need. After 2 initial RVs, we have one that works for us. Expensive alternative to renting. :-)

I would also add that the 2016 model will be on the heavier E450 Ford chassis instead of the E350 which is something to consider. We have only had our 2016 Axis 24.1 for a little over a month. No surprises except for a local Ford dealership that will barely answer the telephone. Not too happy about that part. Keep doing your homework!

Are you thinking owning is more expensive than renting?
Although not for cost reasons, we have been using a combination of a van for travel and camping along with occasional rentals when we need or want more space.
My last rental MH (a basic unit) cost just under $3,000 if I recall correctly, and that covered about 20 days and 5,000 miles in 30-ft Class C. If I was only going to do a couple of longer trips like that a year, I would consider renting. The $6,000 a year, or $500/month average, would be OK with me for the equivalent of 40 days and 10,000 miles a year -- which is more use than a lot of motorhomes probably get. Unfortunately renting can be a hassle, although it can eliminate other ownership-related responsibilities and risks at same time -- like having to park offsite. Still, renting is not the same as owning, and hard for me to quantify in dollars (as are most luxuries). I haven't even tried for fear it may take the fun out of RVing.
If you've compared costs I'd be interested in knowing what you found.

I got mine from Camping World Flagstaff in their Quartzsite location. The local CW would not take the 1999 DP in trade. Just got the few bugs done at local CW in Valencia at the sametime as Safe-t-plus installed. They did allright. The PDI at camping world is a waste of money. Example - three switches near door are unmarked (porch light, master light switch and awning light) and on the 25.3 there is a knive valve on the passenger side on the black water tank so that you can keep the water out of the long pipe which goes to the output on the driver side. I saw it when I had it on the rack for the alignment.

Also the transmission is the new Ford 6 speed not the 5 speed.

3 TV's (2 inside, 1 outside) is the only extra's I have noticed.

Just purchased a 2016 25.3 for $76k with 6 year warranty. Easy rule of thumb is Sticker Price (MSRP) times .70 to .75 (25 to 30 % discount from sticker) Check the Motor Home Specialists website for pricing too. If they were closer I would have purchased from them. 85k seems high. I have not seen any units (Vegas or Axis) without all the options (there are not too many anyway). Just go to the Thor website and the options are listed. Price was "out the door" price (my county sales tax is 8.25 %.

For what it's worth, I checked PPL's recently sold motorhomes, and found a 2015 Axis 24.1 with about 8,000 miles in like-new condition that sold for $57,995.
That's a consignment deal, and I'd expect retail dealers to mark the price up significantly.

At our local camper show this week I saw a new 25.4 that had a show price of $72k. Didn't look at the price for the 24.1 that I walked through..

FWIW
Searching RV Trader there are 9 used 2015 AXIS 24.1s available nationwide. Mileage ranges from 1800 to over 17000. The price range is 58,995 (lowest) in FL to 75,700 (highest) in MA.
There are 7 new listings ranging in price from 69,785 (lowest) in TN and 97,864 (highest) in IN. One of the new ones listed for 69,900 is at my local dealer. I imagine the 2 listed at 97K in IN are showing the MSRP rather than the dealers selling price.
Granted there could be numerous others that are not listed in RV Trader but this should be a relatively decent sample and price range.

All concerned,
We would like to thank all of you that have contributed in educating me during the RV buying process. We have reviewed both positive and negative on the THOR and FOREST RIVER. Ultimately at the end of the day we went the unit that is right for our budget, incentives and reviews. We officially owned our first Class C RV last weekend just in time for Presidents Day.
This is the RV we ended up buying. 2016 Forest River Sunseeker 2300; I did my first de-winterization process last night. It seems to be working right and this weekend will experience the dumping of black and grey water process.
Again thank you all for the help and I hope I can still come here for RV advice from THOR owners.

Congrats on the purchase. My coach prior to the Challenger was a Forest River Sunseeker 2860. Here are a couple of problems I had:
Forest River Customer and Warranty support is not as good as Thor's. You will not receive, even upon request, wiring or plumbing diagrams for the coach. Forest River will tell you that all issues, no matter how minor they are, must be verified by the dealer. They do however have engineers that monitor their forum and periodically answer technical questions.
Dometic refrigerator door lock failed while travelling down the road. Took two weeks for the dealer to repair. They refused to replace the broken ice tray that flew across the coach.
Electric awning deployed while travelling 55 MPH on I95. Dometic issued a prior recall but Forest River did not notify owners. Coach was out of commission for 2 months waiting on a repair appointment.
Overall, it was a good Class C coach but the customer service experience is as different as night and day.
Again, congrats and best of luck.

Congratulations
You bought an awesome coach, and made the right decision.
I have no experience with FR warranty service, but my experience with THOR has been awful. So, glad you got the coach of your dreams!

Radnee - great. Congratulations on you new coach. Have fun and by all means come and ask questions. While Forest Rivers warranty group is weak the Forest River Forums are STRONG. While we had our Georgetown 351, the users really helped and provided way more help than FR CSRs.
Again MP - hit the road with you family in your new motorhome. I believe and hope you all enjoy it as much as we have.
