Anyone run their generator in a Class C while driving

I searched the threads and I couldn't find what I was looking for. I know a lot of the Class A run their generators while driving. Does anybody run their generators in a Class C while driving? If so for what reason. Do you have any issues by doing this?

Thanks

We run the generator in our Axis quite frequently (either to run the rooftop A/C or to allow passenger's the use of the TV/game--no inverter in our coach).

Now our Axis isn't quite a C (nor is it quite an "A") but it is built on a C chassis (E-350) with only the front end being a little different...

There is normally not much reason to run the genny while on the road. There are only 2 0f us and we are both in the cab. The truck air conditioner keeps us cool and we don't run any other high current drain items while driving. Once we get to the campground, that is a different matter.

the reason to run it to be for the AC- we did 10 days w/ the kids and ran the generator about 10 hours- worked like a champ!

I've run it for a few minutes now and then to run microwave, etc. and to test everything underway when new. No need to do so for A/C's as the Class C's don't have the "Double Oven" front cab setup as do the gas A's. There's a reason they mount a 12V fan over both seats in the fishbowl cabs of the A's. If you wanted to run it or needed that power for anything in particular, it will not hurt anything. My Ford factory dash A/C keeps the entire coach cool enough while underway.

I have run mine while driving... but it was only to circulate fuel stabilizer through the generator's fuel system...
(On my way to get it Winterized.)
But I haven't had any other need to run it!

I live in south Texas (106 F today). The coach is almost 3 years old with 23,500 miles so far. The generator hours are just over 2,000 hours. 90% of the generator hours are while on the road.

All the time. Start it before driving off. And turn it off at new campground. Keeps the coach cool.

Sure! That’s what it’s there for. We use it to run the air conditioner

Thanks everyone. I have never run the generator yet while driving. I will have to try it for the heck of it.

I have a freedom elite 31l we used our generator all the time before I put in a small inverter now the only time we use it for the air-conditioner the only issue that I had at one time down in Florida during some heavy rains it picked up water and drowned the engine for the generator out took a few days for it to dry out but then it worked OK

It'll give you a chance to microwave some snacks, while driving!

Running Generator while driving

At last year's summer FMCA attended a presentation where it was strongly suggested to run the generator when driving. It keeps the generator parts supple in addition to keeping the coach cooler. I ran it in our Class A and intend to run it in our new Class C. Only caveat is to turn it off while fueling, just as you would the engine.
Note: while in storage for several months, ran the generator a 1/2 hour every 30 days, too

When we had class c's we almost never ran the genset when travelling down the road. The cab A/C always kept the whole moho comfortable.

Sure. Almost every time I drive it. Don’t use it much camping always hooked to power. Gives it a good exercise. Travel with kids. Need TV AC micro, etc. Also keeps the whole coach cool so when we get where we are going donjot have to cool down coach after setup. Also sometimes have a crockpot cooking some chili so it’s ready when we get there.

Everybody has great ideas. It is definitely a good idea to exercise the generator. Might as well do it while driving.
