Axis/Vegas 24.4 in production

The Axis 24.4 advertised by MHSRV and others a while back made production after all, contrary to what Thor told Jamie.

Specs show it is on E-450 chassis, so OCCC should be pretty good.

It’s interesting that specs also show wheelbase at 182 inches, which is shorter than any previous Axis/Vegas by 6 inches. Makes sense to me given floor plan.
Outside storage not too bad considering the longer slide.

As mentioned in previous thread where we discussed the new 24.4, it seems such an improvement over the 24.3 that I can’t imagine that one will be around for long unless price difference really affects sales that much.

Rut oh! LOL and there is an RV show here in a few weeks...what is the chance one will be there???

None show up on General RV's website (our local dealer) and thus likely won't be one at the show...

Thor site has pictures like these. Looks spacious with main bed up or down. Access to bathroom with bed down doesn’t look as tight as in other similar floor plans. Not for me but going in right direction.

If someone does happen to see one in Tampa...take lots of pics (especially of the outside storage) and post here.

Really odd that they’re using E450 on this one
I figured that once they intro’d the new V8 on the E350 chassis, they would stay that route going forward on Vegas/Axis.

Any guesses why Thor made the change to E450?
And, will Thor move to the E450 chassis for future builds?

Probably rear axle loading (bathroom in the back) and tow capacity. Just a guess.

My guess is that larger slide adds too much weight for the E-350 at only 12,500-pound GVWR to have adequate OCCC. The newest 24.1 floor plan which has smaller slide only has about 1,500 pounds OCCC. I’m fairly certain the 24.4, while no longer overall than 24.1, weighs a considerable amount more — hence need for E-450.

Interesting enough, by going to shorter wheelbase (unless it’s a misprint) compared to 24.1 which is same length overall, they are placing even more weight on rear axle in addition to rear bathroom. That’s probably a good revision because it uses more of the rear axle’s unused capacity and unloads the front axle some which are sometimes close to max.

With a larger slide (almost full wall length), I would guess the front driver’s wheel would have been loaded fairly close to max which may explain the shorter wheelbase. Who knows, they may have done it for some completely different reason.

You can get more pictures from Lazydays below. Seems much of the storage is on passenger side. Storage below slide may be difficult to reach with slide extended.

Not sure how the outside storage ends up as high as specs indicate. Picture from driver’s side is not clear/great.

Compared to other Axis/Vegas, it looks space efficient (open) for its short size.

That must be pretty recent as I've been searching for dealers with them since this thread went up LOL.

Given that its in Tampa I'm guessing that guy is at the show.

That one is in Tuscon.

Yeah, site says Tucson. This morning there is a second one in Berryland but it’s probably too late since sale pending already. I think this floor plan should do well.

Pictures from Berryland show the driver side a bit better, and I don’t see any large outside storage compartment. The largest I see is between entry door and rear wheel.

If you look closely at the pictures it does appear that all the water stuff (tank, heater, pump, etc.) is at the far passenger side rear of the coach. Just look at this pic from lazydays with the panel removed, you can see the water tank right there.

Haven't found where the genny is, however, as none of the pics show an exhaust pipe from it.

However, this pic from the passenger side does show a hatch at the back that looks very similar to the hatch covering our generator on the driver's side.

Note that you can also see the water heater back there.

Furnace appears to be below or next to the fridge (which appears to be a compressor fridge based on the fact that there is no external venting).

Fuel fill seems to be at the very back:

The generator exhaust is routed forward and exits under driver area — it can be seen on picture if one zooms in. And I agree the generator appears to be close to middle of slide, hence need to route exhaust away so it doesn’t leak in through slide seals.

Of course, wasn't looking for it there.

Might make for a little quieter genny with that long of an exhaust pipe.
