Dimplex Fireplace - Fan?

It got a bit chilly this morning. So we thought we'd try out the fireplace. Not much heat coming out. Checked the operation. A small amount of heat comes out of the top but I don't hear a fan. Then the heat stops but the "fireplace" appearance below continues to glow.

Reading other users comments - the heater helps "keep the chill off". The fireplace looks good BUT almost zero heat.

Is this normal operation?

Thanks.

I have not tried our out yet but they say it will heat a 400 sq/ft area.

Do you actually hear a fan blowing the air?

Did not have it on long enough. It was 80 in side the RV.

I think other RV manufactures are using this fire place. Try posting section other than Thor.

Good luck KC

At the risk of insulting you (certainly not my intention), are you familiar with all the fireplace controls? For instance, the rocker switch that sets operation to "off", "manual control" and "remote control" as well as the thermostat knob to adjust temperature at which it cycles on and off?

On the top right side of the fireplace there is a switch that controls whether or not the heating element is on. When on there is some air circulation but you may not hear a fan. On my coach I had to find the switches by feel because they cannot be seen. If you have a drawer above your fireplace you can probably remove the drawer and get a better view of the top edge of the fireplace.

As a note, in the spring I used my fireplace a few times and it provided more heat than the electric heater I had on the trip.

The controls on our Dimplex fireplace are under a flip-down door on the bottom front of the fireplace. The fireplace and CheapHeat system on the furnace are all we need down to the lower 30s, and there's reserve capacity there as both are still cycling on and off.

By the documentation I have located - my unit is a 2500. And RustyJC - after a career in the US Army, that is first place I went. So no offense taken. I am trying to confirm what I think I understand. More input follows:

Thanks all - let me describe what mine is doing.

Switches set up as described in manual.

-Far right hand switch is to enable remote. I set it to remote.
-Middle rocker switch is set so the left hand side of switch is down.
-Rotating thumb switch is set entirely as far as possible clockwise.

It took me a few tries to figure out which switch is which and how to set them. The unit does glow red in the upper center for a few moments but after about 5 seconds - stops glowing. I presume this is the heating element.

I believe I have the settings correct and that the unit is shutting off to prevent overheating.

Comments - other inputs?

Thanks again.
